My 1985 yamaha vmax has overheating problems and im wondering what tests should i do to figure out the problem

Could be a stuck thermostat or bad temperature switch preventing the cooling fan from turning on.

Fuel tank is under the seat , you have to trip a lever by moving it forward and the section will pop up to access the cap.

You have an over heat problem. Check the radiator cap for correct operation. have a cooling pressure test done for cracked head / gasket. Do a compression test done for head gasket failure.

1986 VMax is slipping out of first gear, what do I do ?

2. Shifter drum improperly adjusted or damaged.
3. Shifter engaging parts/dogs badly worn or rounded.
4. Shifter forks bent.
