Not usually, the oil pump picks up and gets to pressure pretty quickly. you can do that but some oil will drain away before you get the filter cover back on. at least when the bike is on its side you dont make a mess removing the old filter

How many litres of oil does a 2007 Yamaha Roadliner take?? Thanks Guy

The manual says that the bike holds 5.18 US quarts WITH a filter change. I change the filter with every oil change. If you don't intend to remove the filter, make sure you know your fluid capacities.

The instruction calls for putting in half the oil - 2.6 quarts - into the bike (make sure you replace the filler cap!), starting the bike and giving it a few revs to circulate the oil. Shut off the bike and add the rest of the oil.

Where is my oil filter for a 1991 Yamaha FJ1200 located?

Its a cartridge type on the left side of the engine. You will need to undo the bolt in the middle of the housing. put a drain tray underneath. you need to manouver it out past the wiring and vent hose. make sure you dont lose the flat washer that sticks to the filter. Reasemble with a new oil filter cartridge and o ring. The torque to do it up to is on the housing. Make sure the wiring or hose doesnt get stuck under it when doing it up bor it will leak. I need step by step instructions on changing the oil and oil filter

First warm up your bike then locate your oil neck filler on your LH side just above your clutch foot pedal, open / loosen it.
Just below it below your clutch housing you will find a large bolt that needs to be opened counterclock wise with a size 17 spanner, unbolt it, before doing so put an oil pan below it to catch the oil.
Your oil filter housing normally reside in the center of your block, open using a size 15 spanner, place oil pan below it to catch any oil drippings.
As soon as you have unbolt the oil filter housing, carefully note the sequence the oil filter is set-up as you need to put everything back in the same order.
Once you have taken the oil plug off and no more oill coming out from the hole, you can put the drain plug in again and tighten it just tight enough to stop poil from leaking, do not over tighthen as it will make more difficult whe doing the next oil change.
Reverse your oil filter process and tighten the bolt tight enough to hold any leaks.
Last step to fill you bike though the oil neck filler hole with 10W40 oil as factory recommendation (about 2.5 -2.8 L). Check everything ensuring they are tight enough then just start your bike for let it idle for abour 2-3 minutes while looking for any seeping from the drain hole of oil filter huosing, if any.
Once that is finish you are finish with the oil change job.
Good enough?

Steps for an oil change on this bike 1986 yamaha maxim 700

Put your bike on the center stand. Inbetween your exhaust there is a bolt on the underside. Use a 14mm with an extender piece. Put a pan underneath, and unscrew the bolt all the way.Oil will drain. Above that there is a "shell" Its got fins on it. Thats your Oil filter. Unscrew that bolt, 12mm and remove Oil filter and spring and rod. Replace o ring with one that came with new filter. make sure its seated correctly. Install new filter, putting the rod and that spring in the correct place. Once she's finished draining, refill youtr crankcase with oil. Oil capacity is around 2.7 quarts. The place to fill is directly above your footpog on the brake side.

Most of XJ bikes uses 15w40, not bad if you use valvoline 20w50 4 stroke motorcycle oil.

Oil change procedure on BMW R 1150 R 2002

Things you will need, Drain pan, 5 quarts oil, BMW oil filter, oil drain plug seal, can of brake cleaner, allen head wrench that fits your drain plug, a oil filter wrench for R- Bike filters, ratchet with a drive that fits the oil filter wrench, paper towels, latex gloves, funnel that fits into the oil fill plug hole. I also keep an old blanket around so I can lay on the ground. Warm the bike up for 5 mins then turn off. Get the bike on the center stand. Position your drain pan under the drain plug . I like to lay out everything im going to use on 4 or 5 paper towels . Remove the fill plug on the top of the left cylinder, set it on the paper towel to keep crud off it. Take your allen head wrench and loosen the drain plug , if you using an open pan to drain your oil , be prepared to fish out the drain plug, it will fall into the oil drain pan. Let the oil drain for 10 minutes. Take some brake clean and spray it all around the area of the oil filter to get rid of all the crud. All the dripping **** should flow into the drain pan if you bought one big enough. Buy drain pans that you can reseal when your done, put it in the car and take it to a recycling center. Put the oil filter wrench onto the ratchet. This oil filter wrench will slip into the filter slot under the engine. Just turn the ratchet untill the filter comes off. Should be clockwise. After the filter is removed, spray brake clean into the filter housing area to get rid off the **** and oil, wipe down with a paper towel and reach up into the filter housing to get all the ****, one final spray off brake clean should clean everthing out.
IF THERE IS NO MORE OIL COMING OUT OF THE DRAIN PLUG, put a new sealing ring on the drain plug and tighten up , snug not TIGHT.
Now before you put the new oil filter on , open up a quart of oil and fill the oil filter up about 90% with new oil, put a little oil on the rubber seal, put the the oil filter into your filter tool and insert the tool and filter up into the filter housing. Do this be hand so you will not strip the filter housing threads. The filter should go on very easy and you should be able to turn the filter at least 3-4 turns until its hand tight, Finish off with the ratchet, SNUG NOT TIGHT. Finish off with a little brake cleaning on the bottom of the engine housing to clean up any oil. Put the funnel in the fill hole and put in 3 quarts of oil. Read your owners manual for your oil capacity. There is a sight glass on the lower left side off the engine under the cylinder. Fill with oil until the oil level is in the middle of the sight glass. Put you fill cap back on. Turn you engine over a couple of times put dont let the bike run for more than 5 seconds, let the bike sit for 2-5 minutes to let the oil level settle, then check the oil level in the sight glass, it should be in the middle. if you dont see any oil in the sight glass after 2-5 minutes add a little oil at a time until the oil level in the sight glass is in the middle. Start the bike agian for 5-10 seconds , then check the oil level in the sight glass. You should be good to go. email me for any questions

Chang oil and care of filter of oil

Hi,

How to change Oil>>
Step 1.
Put the bike and your tools in a convenient place. Raise the bike onto its kickstand in a clear area that can get a little dirty. Gather your new oil, tools, rags and drain pan in one place so you don't have to run to get a tool in the middle of the oil change.
Step 2.
Find the drain plug and filler cap. Before you begin to work, make sure the engine is not hot, though it should be slightly warm. Remove the filler cap so that the oil settles to the bottom of the can and can be properly drained.
Step 3.
Place your drain pan underneath the bike's drain plug. You can use a flat piece of metal, or even a piece of cardboard, to channel the oil into the drain pan.
Step 4.
Use a socket wrench to open the drain plug. Open the plug slowly so any built-up pressure can diffuse. Keep an eye on the oil's flow so you can catch as much of it as possible with the drain pan.
Step 5.
Change the oil filter. While this is not strictly necessary, it's a good idea to take the time to change the bike's oil filter. Locate the oil filter using the motorcycle's manual and replace it with a new one.
Step 6.
Replace the drain plug and refill the oil. Make sure the drain plug is securely fastened and then pour fresh oil into the tank, using the amount of oil that is specified by the bike's manual.

>>After 5000 kms you need to change the filter. Oil brand is a matter of preference as oil and filter is really a cheap price to pay so that your engine will last and last.

please rate this solution.
