Hi. I've got gas leaking from two carb drain hoses with the gas set to OFF. Is it the carb, the gasflow valve or both?

  • jmhsn May 11, 2010

    Sounds like 2 float valves are leaking, possible dirt/foreign matter in the fuel. Pull off the hoses at the fuel valve to check that flow stops in the off position. You can also remove the sediment bowl at the fuel valve (10mm bolt head) to check the condition of your fuel.

Thought I answered this...Pull off the fuel hoses at the valve and check that flow stops in the off position. Remove the 10mm head sediment bowl and check for dirt/rust. Sounds like 2 float valves are leaking because of dirt or foreign matter. Pull off the float bowl drain hoses on the carbs and loosen or remove the drain screw to check the fuel condition.

Yamaha 1978 750 Special Fuel Leaking Problem

These type of fuel shut offs do not have a manual off position. They are automatically operated by engine vaccuum when working properly. They have malfunctioned and allowed fuel to overflow into the airfilter box(the black box) untill repair time use a long piece of hose to connect the large outlet of each shutoff to eachother or plug the end of two short pieces. The carbs have a drain screw on the very bottom of each facing left , right or straight down. you could also drain the carbs however once the fuel supply is cut to them they should not leak any further. Leave the carb fuel hoses from the tank disconnected. You should drain the tank by siphon and the residual gas that is already in the air box can be drained from the hose on the bottom of the box. This is a mess but once you get all this drained it should stop leaking

Um dtf 110 fuel hose loose

Sounds like the carb overflow hose. It it's leaking gas the float in the carburator is stuck and letting too much gas into the float bowl, causing the excess gas to drain from this hose. You will have to remove the carb and set the float to the proper level.

My 2005 carburated sporty is leaking gas from the hose on the bottom of carb is my float stuck

That hose has dual functions; to drain the carb and to safelydivert gas if the float valve fails. Check to make sure the drain screw isn't open or loose. If not check the float and needle. The needle could be deformed as a result of ethenol exposure. Safe riding.

After a long period of no use, the gas drains out of the carburator when filled. This is the second time.

Make sure you shut the gas valve off when your done. It is right under tank on hose. If not, the carb will fill up and leak out of the bottom of the bowl and gum up your carb in the process

Scooter will not start

I had the same problem. the drain hose on the carb is supposed to have a little valve in it. it is meant to drain your carb when you winterize, HOWEVER, they fall off and fuel runs out. Screw a small bolt into the end of the hose and bingo- it runs.

Honda 750 shadow gas leak

It is a vent / overflow hose. It drains to the atmosphere / street. If gas is coming out and isn't stopping then a float is stuck.

Turn off the gas and drain the offending carb(s). Next, turn the gas back on and sharply tap the float bowl with the plastic handle of a screwdriver as the fuel bowl refills. The goal here is to vibrate the float to free it up. If doing this process a couple of times does not free the float I would remove the carb(s) and look for any misalignment of float pin, needle or adjusting tang.

Now re-clean with a spray carb cleaner. Clean the air filter then re-mount carb(s). Next, Remove the water trap bowl at the bottom of the petcock, (gas valve). Dump it, clean it and re-mount it, ( not all bikes have a trap bowl ). INSTALL AN IN-LINE FUEL FILTER..

Gas leak from carb drain hose

I had this same problem on my DRZ-110.
I took apart the carburator to clean everything out, but when i re-assembled it it started to leak gas out of the drain hose. Then i found out that the problem was that one of my gaskets were torn and were letting air in the drain which prevents it from being a vacuum, therefore causing gas to leak out.
I would first check the float & make sure it isnt stuck, then i would check all of the gaskets and make sure they arent torn, & replace the ones that are, even if theyre slightly damaged they can still let in air.
Your carb has to be 100% sealed & vacuumed to prevent any leaks & for it to work fine, so get those gaskets checked out

Gas coming from black tube

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially and to my knowledge, some of the hoses connected to a carb would be:
  • from tank through fuel shutoff valve;
  • overflow hose;
  • drain hose;
  • in some case a vacuum hose.
Of the above, the only possible hose that would fit your description would be the overflow hose. Should this be the case, then this indicates that the float inside the carb's bowl has not moved up to engage/close the inflow valve. A workaround is to tap the bottom of the bowl to jar the float to go up as well as the shutoff the inflow valve. The drain hose would also allow fuel to flow out from the carb but that would mean the drain screw is loose/opened.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

Pls be informed that due to my current rank and rating, even a Helpful would be detrimental to my status. Should this solution not address your concern, it would be appreciated if you could just not rate it at all. Cheers.
