Hi i have a gv 250 with the same problems, after removing the side cover and removing the clutches noticed that there is wear even though there is plenty of lever on the bar ,but the issue is either replace the clutch plates or leave them and make an adjustment ,very easy to do,in the center of the center of the clutch basket is a bolt and lock nut with a screw in the center of the bolt, undo the lock nut ,you will need a 12mm and a 10mm spanner from memory and a philips/star screw driver and undo the screw roughly quarter to half a turn back then do up the lock nut ,the point of this is to make that bolt once tightened up the locker nut is the bolt to spin free and not be firm at all,do this and you will fix your clutch issues with probs getting into netral at a stand still..if you still have issues repete the adjustment untill you get it rite, otherwise just buy new clutch kit.
.cheers
What type oil are you using? 10w40 is what is recommended. I had the same issue, after I changed the oikl it made it a little easier. The motor should hold about a quart and a half or so.
Your clutch works by being submerged in oil, check your oil level and make sure its touching the stick. If this is a rebuilt engine expect some oil consumption.
