Hi I own a 1988 Gixer 750 slingshot. I seem to be having problems with my gears. I cant change up at all but changing down is normal. I have noticed that when I stand at a stop street with the bike in gear and the cluth lever is in and then the bike pulls abit forward. I dont know if the gearbox is packing up or if the clutch cable has slack on it that needs to be taken out. Please assist

HI Keith. As far as l know the bore size varied over the years, 1987 - first models - were 36mm, l've got a set.
Google Slingshot carbs & Suzuki GSXR 750 Slingshot carbs, there's a wealth of info on how to identify & also do a complete strip down
HI IF THIS ONLY HAPPENS IN ONE GEAR IT IS LIKELY YOU HAVE SOME DAMAGE TO AT LEAST 1 OF YOUR GEARBOX PINIONS, HOWEVER AS WHEN YOU ENGAGE A GEAR MORE THAN 1 GEAR IS MESSHED WITH ANOTHER I WOULD SUSPECT WEAR OR DAMAGE TO THE MATEING GEAR, ON THE MAINSHAFT AND THE LAYSHAFT, IT WOULD REQUIRE ENGINE REMOVAL AND DISMANTLING TO EXAMINE FOR WARE AND TARE, I WOULD SUGEST YOU DRAIN THE ENGINE OIL INTO A CLEAN CONTAINER AND EXAMINE THE OIL AS YOU POUR THE OIL FROM THE CONTAINER, CAERFULLY EXAMINE THE BOTTOM OF THE CONTAINER FOR ANY PEICES OF METAL, IN REPECT OF A BROKEN TOOTH FROM A GEAR, THE GEARS ARE MADE FROM CAST WHICH CAN BREAK WHEN WORN, IF THE OIL IS CLEAN WITH NO METAL THEN IT COULD BE IN EARLY STAGES.
Certainly you best adjust these screws with a vacume gauge set connected and set them all the same as the gauges dictate as the number of turns out is just where you start. The sync needs to be set first with the idel turned up too high when it's right turn the isel back down and check again as the idel is low nows the time to correct differences with the idel mixture screws. As the idel mixture is always on they effect the total mixture at all enf=gine speeds but lesser so at high speeds only noticeable at the gas pump carefully cheaking
I have seen this before a few things to do too make sure. First take the air filter out and shine a light use your fingers to move the slides up and down I suspect the springs that go on the slide is not seated in center you can tell from the slide going halfway and hanging up. Next, the boots on the slides only go on 1 way there is a notch on the carbs for them. I would guess this would fix you up if not we can get deeper into it with air-fuel mix screw settings.good luck
best way to do this is to take spark plugs out individually and check for smell and sight of fuel. if it is getting fuel but not sparking then you will have a wet sparkplug. if it is dry look at the colour of the hook at the bottom of the plugs. brown plugs means running too rich, grey plugs means average burning and working well. black plugs is very bad and must be serviced. if all this not working the other test you can try but dont spill any petrol before you do this. if while you have plug out(only one at a tim or yuoll loose where wot leasd went to where) plugging it into the cable and holding with a very insulated pair of pliers, then try to turn bike over(start) whilst looking at the hook bit on the plug. if you see a bright spark from the plug then you will prob find they firing in the worng order. this could be a problem and should be dealt with by a dealer.
if you have a spark ,remove fuel pipe from bottom of carb , if fuel is present then the problem may be blocked carbs (common after a respray ). if fuel is not present the n the filter will be blocked in the fuel tap just remove and clean hope this helps
