Thought battery was bad. When I press the starter switch the headlight goes out but the engine does not turn over. No sound at all unless I rock the kill switch back and forth. Same symptoms after replacing battery.

Remove and clean battery cables, if that does not work look at a replacement battery. Another test is to turn headlight on if possible and observe, if it goes dim replace battery.
Hi Anon, since your bike does start when it is rocked, we may suspect a problem with the wiring. Your Suzuki has at least three safety switches which prevent starting the engine unless certain procedures have taken place. First we must determine the efficacy of these switches. With the ignition key on, kickstand up, transmission in neutral, clutch handle depressed, emergency shut-off switch in the "On" position, depress the starter button. Normally, the headlight will dim when you depress the starter button. If it does dim and the engine does NOT crank, the problem may be low voltage from the battery or internal starter issues. If the headlight does NOT dim, there could be a problem with one of the safety switches, ie. Kickstand, clutch, neutral etc switches. To determine if one of these switches is defective, use a jumper lead to bypass each.....one at a time. Since the kickstand is most vulnerable to debris, check it first then you must locate the others and do the bypass elimination test. It is not advisable from a safety standpoint to leave a jumper wire in the circuit to circumvent the purpose of a safety switch. This procedure is for testing only. Have a nice day. Herb
did you try jumping the solenoid at the starter to see if it turns?. could be the neutral safety switch has failed or the ignition switch is bad. 1991 camrys did not come with engine immobilizers unless you have an after market alarm.
There are several possibilities for you to investigate. When the key is in the start position do you should hear a click from the starter solonoid? If so then you know that power is getting to the starter solonoid which eliminates a bad ignition switch. In that case you may have a bad starter. If you hear no click then you must get a test light and use it to see if power is getting to the starter solonoid. Ground the light and place the tip on the energizer wire to the solonoid. When an assistant turns the key to the start position the test light should light. This tells you power is where it should be and the solonoid is not working. If there is no power there then you must suspect a bad ignition switch or a bad wire in between the switch and the starter. Hope this helps.
sounds like a bad starter, test for power with a testlight, have someone crank the engine while you check for power at starter , the small wire should have power when key is in start position. if theres power then replace starter, hope this helps good luck.
