Hello everyone, I have a 2009 honda crv and I have within the last month or so been experiencing a bit of an issue when I accelerate. When I hit the accelerator at low speeds it I feel this hesitation and it feels this thump almost like it is hitting the gear or something. There is also some hesitation under heavy acceleration. Also the transmission will sometimes shift a bit harder into 2nd and 3rd gear but not all the time. I checked the transmission fluid and it is perfect. I have gone to the dealer and they can't replicate the symptoms. I can't figure out what is going on. One person told me it sounds like something might be wrong with the computer settings. Is this possible? If so what could cause the computer to mess up. This person told me to disconnect the battery terminals for a few minutes and let the computer reset, and this might solve the problem. I am hesitant to do this though cause I don't I have never done anything like that before and I dont want to do anything that might potentially void my warranty. Any help on this would be appreciated!

Your honda has a fuzzy logic/computer operated gearbox.(auto)the first 1/3 of the accelerator pedal is for economy/smooth changes.the second 1/3 is for "normal"? driving and the last third( is for idiots like me,power crazy) is for quick passing.i am assuming you have not had this explianed to you by the salesperson, yeah right, like they would....all this is controlled by the onboard computer....if it had a fault it would show ..

Testimonial: "Thanks for the info! But unfortunately i'm back to square 1.Based on issues I described what would be your guess as to what it going on?Thanks again!"

poss use of low grade/low octane fuel....?forget handbook all computerised cars love high octane stuff. as for the reason it is possible that the car has more than one user and its trying to reprogramme itself to your driving style. do not ,please, disconnect the battery there is no reason to do this regardless of what"your friends"say it will do nothing...the computer is NOT programmable by anyone other than a specialist tuner.

what is going on is the car is trying to "read" your driving style and changing gears when it thinks you want it to.the rougher you drive the rougher the car will feel...sorry, but modern cars tell your passengers how bad/good your driving style is.....

Transmission issues

I would take the vehicle to the dealer and leave it there. Period. Tell them you don't want it back or even a phone call until it is properly repaired.

Possible transmission or Computer issue

  1. okay check your motor mounts and the recall list for your model
  2. unplugging trhe battery will work to clear codes but the problem will come up again
  3. make sure you are taking to a five star honda dealer and ask them to keep it over night if you can and drive it in the morning when it is cold that if it is jerking when its cold should be the best time for them to catch it

Well what the issue exactly is I don't know but the dealer don't know either....Hmmmm it sounds you transmission needs to be serviced....Transmission Fluid change and Filter and gaskets... But also lets consider that your vehicle is not that old and probably is not time for your vehicle for that kind of service....But at some point it sounds like your transmission is about to go out and you might need it to be re-built....Check with your dealership see if your vehicle still under warranty and have them to service your transmission....

Good luck. I hope you get it fixed.

disconnecting the battery will not void any warranty so you are safe with that just as long as you reconnect the battery back up to the right polarity. if you are hearing a thump and getting poor performance then chances are you probably have tainted gasoline and are experiencing misfires and "engine knock". usually caused by water in the gas. so, first you will want to put some gas line antifreeze (NOT THE GREEN/RED ANTIFREEZE YOUR COOLANT SYSTEM TAKES) into your gas tank at your next fill up, and put in the premium grade gas for your next few fill ups as it has a lower combustion point (catches fire easier) and burns hotter, and cleaner. some injector cleaner might also help as water going through your injectors can leave deposits behind.

what you can do is ask a couple people to drive your car to see if they feel the same thing you do. if they do then you need to take it back to the dealer to check it again, make sure you obtain some thing in writing for all your visit.

Transmission or possible computer problem

First if the cr is under warranty, take it to the dealer, again and again and again until they fix it, call Ford Motor Co. Customer Service number and complain. Get it recorded that this is a continuing problem, that way when the warranty does run out, you still have recourse... As far as disconnecting the battery it will not void the warranty, disconnect only the NEGATIVE cable and leave it off for at least half an hour. then clean the cable end and battery post and reconnect it. this will clear your codes if any, but will not fix what is wrong with the transmission.. That may actually be a sensor or switch in/on the transmission or a mechanical component going bad... Good Luck

Possible vacuum leak on 09 crv

96 to 2002 Civic, Accord, CRV automatics: The shift solenoid pairs, usually 2 pairs - upper and lower, are very sensitive and get sticky with age. I don't know how many miles you have on your car, but its usually rewarding to take them off and clean them and test them with a good 12v battery. The plunger should move an 1/8th inch with a good snap. If one is stuck whack it face down on a clean piece of paper, blow it out with a compressor and try again. Solenoids can cause starting out in the wrong gear, missing gears, creep in neutral, drag, bad downshifting, shudder, etc... Lower front solenoids are under a metal cap with 3 10mm bolts. Passengers side. Down there at the rear passenger side of the trans is the speed sensor, make sure the connector is clean and wires not damaged. Most of the time it is stuck or weak solenoids that cause these shifting issues. Each solenoid works on a separate gear actuation pathway.

Noisy Transmission on my 2009 Honda CRV

If you have an automatic transmission, locate and check the transmission fluid dipstick to ensure you have enough fluid.

If manual transmission, usually you can only check it by unscrewing a bolt. (the fluid lasts a long time and shouldn't leak -look for fluid on the bottom of the transmission or under the car..)

I have not worked on these, so I am just guessing.

The noise could also be not in the transmission perhaps..
