I had a scooter accident a while ago, and snapped my kickstart off. My scooter still works ok with the electric start but i want to get my kickstart fixed. I wanted to know how much at the most it could cost me to get it fixed if all the mechanisms are smashed up in there? thanks

If it is just the kick arm, that is simple. If the shaft that it connects to is bent, this is very difficult to access. Please have your Honda Shop take a look at it. If the electric works, you might want to consider using it that way. If there is internal damage, it might not be worth repairing this 10 year old scooter.

Would a scooter/motorbike run ok if i done away with the kickstart and just use the electric start

Yes, but wouldn't it be better to have it work? Get a knowledgeable biker or mechanic to work out what goes where. I can't imagine its that difficult for someone with mechanical bias.

Need more info. There are dozens of things it could be. Is fuel getting through? Or is there current to the plug?

  • 1

Unfasten the kickstart by loosening the bolt head of the pin that attaches the kickstart to the outside of your scooter's variator case. This will allow you to pull the pin and remove the kickstart.

  • 2

Remove the outer face of the variator system. On most scooters, this faceplate is attached to the variator case with six bolts.

Have you ever cleaned out the carburetor? Rebuilt it or cleaned it out chemically? Might also have a weak spark - check out your coil.

I have a vespa px and the electric start wont work ? can ya help

The electric starts are very hit and miss. Probably why they still came fitted with a kickstart. It's more reliable !
