Suzuki ls400 wil not accelerate and backfires

My ls400 will not accelerate @ top and wont go faster than 85 kph.
I reccently replaced valve and needle to stop it flooding which worked but was hard to start also had black smoke out of exhaust and then it would not start at all. So i changed float level to run leaner which worked besides a backfire when slowing down and so i went for a 250 km round trip through mountains and long straights without problems sitting on 90 to 100 kph. After a 4 hour break my problem started can some help please.

Leaking exhaust. My LS400 lost its rear exhaust cover which left 4 holes in the silencer, it then started running bad, wouldn't idle and wouldn't rev out. An old chopper of mine (XS650) had open pipes and behaved the same 'till I fitted full silencers, so I filled the four holes in the LS400 wirth pop rivets and it's fine and dandy now. Hope this helps,
Simon,

How to increase the top speed on a c50

Hi and welcome to fixya,

You change gear ratios if you wanna increase the top speed on a C50. A smaller gear on the rear will give allow to go faster but will sacrifice on power and acceleration. It also means that you indeed go faster from 150 kph max to 170 to 200 kph. That's a big leap and it will take you more time to achieve the speed. If you drive mostly on flat roads, it shouldn't be a problem. But if you go uphill and tend to prioritize dragging power (for stop and go applications), i would still recommend not changing the gear ratios.

Meanwhile, you may increase its performance by purchasing a stage 1 dyno kit and a performance exhaust. These exhaust are more open and will let exhaust fumes out. It could give around +15 HP kick with the proper exhaust. I would also recommend changing the plugs to iridium and change oil filter and air filter to K&N high-flo filters. This will guarantee a performance upgrade on your bike and result is faster acceleration and quicker to reach top speed.

Hope this helps.
Let me know if you want more info so i could detail.

Ive a yz 85 that keeps on making a bubbling sound then i try to give it throttle and it backfiring in every gear , then it just cuts out i dont have a clue could some one tell me how 2 fix it?

Sounds like this bike sat for a while.

When bikes sit, the jets and the needles that go through them corrode both contributing to leaning the mixture.

Replace the jets, replace the metering needles, and while you're in there, replace the float valves and their seats.

Ive just bought a suzuki gsx750f 1989 model it was running fine the first day and now wont start and backfires when im trying to start it can anyone help me?

Backfiring is typical for 'lean' conditions and stuck inlet valves.
check also the spark plug condition, replace them if any doubt on their age exists.
Check compression to discover open valves.
Clean out the carburettors.
