Question about Yamaha YZ 125 Motorcycles

2 Answers

I have a chance to pik up a 88 yz 125 for a hell of a price and the guy says it wont start. No spark. electrical problem. says its the stator. I dont know that. So im asking, what exactly I can do to find out if it is indeed the stator. ive found a used stator from a salvage place for 50 bux but would rather not have to go thru all the bs if it isnt the problem, what elose could it be? possibly cdi or does the particular year have cdi or is it a mag? id appreciate any input anyone could give and thank you very much for your time! thanks again. steve

Hello, usually you have 3 things for firing problems, stator and stator pickup coil, or ign coil, or cdi, i have a 2000 warrior 350, i just went through all that, you can buy after market cdi from procom engineering inc. i purchased one for my warrior 76.00 , it advances timing, hotter spark etc.most of the time it is the stator, pick up coil, both are hooked up together in the stator case, left side of motor, warrior cdi usually goes bad, havent heard of cdi on 88 model, may need to check with dealer.

Could be cdi or coil or ground wire, that might even have points and condensers were its that old take a good look over the electrical hareness and then check kill switch.

I need to sleeve the cylinder on a 1984 yz 125 and I want to know if I could use a sleeve for a newer yz 125. Like say a 1987 or 88.

Contact Kustom-kraft.com they can provide you with the sleeve you need, or bore and hone your existing sleeve.

My yamaha yz 125

if your getting spark than i would take the carb off and clean it you could have a cloged jet.( just because your getting fuel from tank to carb dont mean its getting from carb to jug) i would try that first......yz-maniac.

Black spark plug means too rich , you will have to replace the spark plug since it has foul up and reset the air mixture screw on the carburator 2 and 1/2 turns outwards.
Check the air filter too.
Hope this helps.
