To get your battery out, first remove the seat. Usually, remove the bolt at the rear of the seat, lift the rear end upwards and pull backwards. Once the seat it off, there is a chrome strap across the top of the battery cover. On the right hand side, there is a nut on the end of the strap. Loosen this nut until the strap will come off the battery. Remove the negative side battery cable first but accessing the bolt from the right side of the bike. Then, remove the positive side. Take it to an automotive parts house and have them check the battery for you.

My 2005 hd custom xl sporter was low on oil i didnt check it,it stared up fine then cut off put oil in it but it want turn over just making a clicking noise help!!!

Hi Chris, first when checking anything in the starter circuit you must make sure the battery connections are clean and tight especially the negative cable at both ends and has a 12.5 volt or better charge. It must not fall below 9 volts during the cranking procedure with a volt meter hooked up. If it does fall below 9 volts do a proper load test on the battery and replace if necessary. Second replace the starter relay cheap $6 and make sure it's well grounded and getting 11.5 volts or better to activate. Third remove the back cover of the solenoid and de-arc/refurbish the contact plate and shoes making sure they are tight. If it still chatters replace the solenoid. Good luck

My sporter 2004 XL 1200 was runnig then i turn motor light on and wen a turned offf it did not started again the battery is good

Hi Daekala, when checking for spark the CKP needs to measure the compression bump in order to send the correct signal to the ICM/ECM so always check for spark with either a third plug grounded or lift the end of the plug boot 1/2 " off one of spark plugs that are in the head. and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel tank empty
2. Fuel supply valve turned off.
3. Fouled spark plugs.
4. Engine flooded with gasoline as a result of over use of enrichner.
5. Fuel valve or filter clogged.
6. Vacuum hose to automatic fuel supply valve disconnected, leaking, or pinched.
7. Discharged battery, loose or broken battery connections.
8. Loose wire connection at coil, battery or plug between ignition sensor and module.
9. Spark plug cables in bad condition and shorting, spark plug cable connections loose,
or cables connected to wrong cylinders.
10. Ignition timing incorrect due to faulty ignition coil, ignition module, or sensors " Manifold Absolute Pressure" "Camshaft Position Sensor" "Crank Position Sensor" "Brake Apply Sensor
11. Engine lubricant to heavy ( winter operation )
12. Sticking or damaged valves or push rod wrong length.
13. Primary cam sproket spline sheared or missing spacer.
14. Security alarm system not disarming.

Warning light come one and oil pressure gauge goes to zero. could this be somthing other that the oil pump ?? how hard is oil pum to change on 2005 envoy xl ?

check oil sending unit first. could be that it has failed and is sending a bad signal to the instruments. if it is the pump the engine has to be removed to change the pump.

2005 Harley Sportster 1200 The issue is that almost every time I try to (eletric) start it all of the electrical goes out. I push on the positive battery cable and the lights come on and then when I try...

The problem is more than likely INSIDE the battery. It sounds like you've got a bad connection to a cell right at the positive terminal of your battery.

A twelve volt battery is actually made out of six two-volt cells. If you look at a twelve volt battery, count the number of the "filler caps" on the top of the battery. There are six. The same thing appies to a six volt battery. Three two-volt cells, three filler caps. These two-volt cells are connected in series inside the battery to make a six or twelve volt battery. If one of these connections goes bad, the battery quits working. In this case, it's a open circuit. A battery can also "short circuit" on the inside causing it to lose one or more "cells" and dropping in voltage.

In short, take your battery out of the bike and take it to an automotive parts store. Ask them to load test the battery for you. This should tell the story. Battery life in Sporters and Softail model Harleys are often very short, two years. The reason, vibration and heat. If your battery is over two years old, you are probably due for a new one.

Good Luck
Steve

Fuel line came off one side is still connect to the carbutor

The fuel line runs from the fuel petcock to the carburetor. On either end, there should be a "nipple" where the fuel line connects. If you can't find it, something is broken.
