Yes the Fi is fuel injection. What about a petcock or pump?

Will you need any mods depends on what you're speaking of. The tank should fit without any problems unless Harley changed the frame for some reason.

Now, as for using a fuel injection tank on a carburetor equipped bike, I'm not sure what you will need to do. I have not worked on a fuel injected Sporty but I'm assuming that is what your talking about when you say "FI" in your post.

I'm sorry but that area I cannot help you with. The reason is that I work on the bikes that the dealerships won't work on. I work on the early models like the Panheads, Shovelheads, Evos, Ironhead Sportsters and early Evo Sportsters. I can still give a lot of useful information because Harley doesn't change a lot of things very often. However, the electronically controlled fuel injection systems is an area that I have no experience in. I do not work on these bikes because I'm not sure of what I'm doing. I'm too old, 60, to go back to school and besides, I got plenty to keep me busy with the old iron. I'm just an old school biker that tries to help every now and then. Good Luck with your project. Steve

My sportster 98 mod will start but it is very uneven on the throttle, like its getting to lillte fuel at times? or can it be a minor/smaller problem?

Hi Jan, if you have a carburator the usual suspects are:
1. Damaged or restricted fuel tank venting system (gas cap).
2. Inlet system air leak.
3. Vacuum piston malfunction.
4. Accelerator pump leaking or no output.
5. Plugged bowl vent.
6. Fuel level (float chamber) too low.
7. Restriccted fuel supply passages.
8. Plugged jets or passages.
9. Worn or damaged needle or needle jet.
10. Enrichner valve not seated or leaking.
Good luck

Sportster fuel light stays on

There should not be a fuel light on a 2006 model. Your bike has a carburetor, not fuel injectors. And has no electronics in the gas tank. Fuel lights are for models that have a fuel pump and sensor IN the gas tank to warn when the fuel is running low, which they went to in 2007 Sportsters. Instead your low fuel indicator is when you have to switch your petcock from normal to reserve.

Fuse for 2008 harley sportster 883xl

Hi Darla, 1998 and later Sportster models circuit breaker and fuses were located in an electrical bracket behind the starter relay and data link that was mounted behind the left side panel. 1997 and earlier circuit breakers only no fuses were located under the seat and for a free wiring diagram please visit the website below and good luck.Harley Davidson Manuals Mark Workshop

2005 Harley Sportster Custom , oil tank cap leaks until tank is half a quart low ,could o-ring need replaced it is loose .

If the tank cap is loose, you need to get a new seal or simply replace the entire cap. There are two marks on the dipstick. The upper mark is "FULL HOT" and the lower mark is "FULL COLD". Do not add oil to the tank when the oil is cold. As long as there is oil on the stick, ride the bike until it comes to operating temp and then add any oil if it needs any. This is a common mistake on the Sportsters. If you bring the oil up to the top mark when cold, it'll expand and blow the tank cap out and make a big mess. Do not overfill the tank but if the tank cap is loose, replace it.

Good Luck

1989 sportster building pressure in oil tank

A little pressure is normal on the sportster. I have seen where if the oil tank is over full it can blow the dip stick out. Most of us who ride sportsters keep the level showing on the dip stick about midway between the low and full line. Doing this will also help with oil blow by out the air cleaner.

Will a HARLEY DAVIDSON FXSTD tank fit a 883c

Cool idea, that's a great looking tank. I am not positively sure but I don't think this is going to be a bolt on part with no mods to the tank. The easy part may be the mounting brackets. You can have them relocated by an experienced welder using your existing tank as a guide. The big problem may be in the fitting. It may be too long to fit between your steering head and your seat and/or it may sit too low and rest on your rocker covers (the tunnel looks pretty high). I'd bet it's going to be impossible for you to put your hands on a tank to see if it will fit but you may be able to measure one. Get the length from front to back, from frame to top (at the front) and from the top of the tunnel to the bottom of the tank. If it will fit on your frame all you may need to do is a little welding.
