I have a 99 nissan altima. I am having problems with my car running. 2 days ago it started really bogging down from a dead stop, to where it would almost die. Slowly start to pick up speed and then the tac would jump up. It is jumpy and boggy until I hit about 45-50. It still spudders a little bit but not much. Yesterday the car started just fine let it warm up for 2-3 min. and put it drive and got about 15 feet before it bogged down and died. Today it wont start at all. I have asked a few mechanically inclined friends and they both said it is probably the throttle position sensor. I would like a third opinion before i buy a $115 part. Thanks

A TPS will not cause a no start,so the 1st thing u do here is stop guessing and do the proper tests, the 1st test to do is check for fuel pressure, your discription sounds like a failed fuel pump, get a can of spray starting fluid from the auto parts store and spray that into the intake air pipe to the engine, if it starts and stalls right away then u have a fuel pressure issue most likely due to a defective in tank fuel pump, next have the OBD 2 electronic engine control system tested for fault codes, u will need to buy a fault code reader, the connector that it plugs into is right in front of the steering wheel under the das, the code readers are about $40 from Kragen or Autozone parts stores, let me know what happens.

Hi. I have a 99 nissan altima. My problem is with it dying in gear. Forward or reverse. It runs a little rough at idle (about 500 r.p.m) you can rev it up to 3-4000 no problem, as long as it is in neutral...

Check the throttle positioning sensor and the transmission, it sound loke the sensor is givving bad information to the computer whis is cutting the engine when in gear, this might cause the transmission to break its syncro plate if it slamms in and out of gear.

For a free check on your code,go to Autozone and they will scan your code for free and it only takes a minute and they will tell you what's wrong. When was the last time you had your oil changed. You can take it to the Nissan Dealership for a oil change and they will see the check engine light on and run a free scan and tell you what is wrong and how much it will cost. They always check customer's vehicle's out to see if it need's anything.

Going through alternators

Hi there, I am a girl (i.e. not car savvy), but I have a 1998 Altima as well, and the first time (4 months ago) I noticed the brake and battery lights on simultaneously, I took it to a Nissan service shop. Everything seemed fine until about a month ago when the symptoms returned. I ignored the problem for 3 days and the car just stopped running, period. Took it back to the shop, figured out it was a fauly alternator, got it sorted, no problem. Today (1 month after replacement), I see the same bloody problem, and I'm taking it back to the shop in the morning. I am wondering... is it the alternator, or something connected to the alternator that is malfunctioning? The 2 alternators put in were "rebuilt" since they didn't have genuine Nissan alternators available. I really hope the dealers aren't taking me for a merry ride.

1999 Nissan Altima window won't go up -stuck. don't know if it is a motor or a mechanical issue. Window got stuck halfway down for 2 years but could pull it up and motor worked, but not now. Any...

If you don't hear the motor running anymore it has stopped working or jammed. If the motor is running it maybe something as simple as a track that needs replaced. You will need to open the door panel to find out and repair this. I recommend you get the Haynes repair manual to do this.

I have a 95 nissan altima, its battery went dead two days ago and we jumped it and it started fine and ran fine. Last night it started sputtering and stalling. now everytime i try to start it it runs real...

Make sure the battery and alternator is working. Get battery and alternator checked. It did not jump timing. Autozone will do it free and Walmart will check your battery. Lets try this and get back with me

Chevy 350 runs really hot... i have an 81 cutlass with a stock chevy 350 & for some reason it bogs down like it wants to turn off & gets really hot when im parked idleing for more than 10 minutes...

there must be something restricting the water flow. i would check the houses to make sure there are no sharp turns that dont need to be there. next i would upgrade the water pump to make up for the extra hp.
flushing the block is always a good idea too when adding hp because you never know whats inthere.

My 2005 Nissan Altima loss power while I was driving down the street, the next day it cut off at a light, it takes a few seconds to start, but always starts

the 2.5 altima's had a recall on that problem about 2-3 years ago. Go to edmunds or progressive find the recall letter and the dealer will fix it free. well here you go:

section_opened.gif Recall ID # 07V527000 - ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING Recall Date: NOV 14, 2007 Component: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING Model Affected: ALTIMA Potential Units Affected: 653910 Recall Details Recall Date: NOV 14, 2007

Model Affected: 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA

Summary: ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 2.5L ENGINE, THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR CAN OVERHEAT CAUSING A BRIEF INTERRUPTION IN THE SIGNAL OUTPUT FROM THE SENSOR.

Consequence: IF THE INTERRUPTION IN THE SIGNAL FROM THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR IS SO BRIEF THAT THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE (ECM) LOGIC DOES NOT HAVE TIME TO DIAGNOSE THE CONDITION, THE ENGINE MAY STOP RUNNING WITHOUT WARNING WHILE THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN AT A LOW SPEED INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPROGRAM THE ECM FREE OF CHARGE. CERTAIN MY 2006 ALTIMAS WHICH HAVE BEEN PREVIOUSLY REMEDIED UNDER RECALL CAMPAIGN 06V223 (NISSAN R0606) ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL SINCE THE REPROGRAMMING FOR 06V223 ALSO INCLUDED THIS REPROGRAMMING. THE RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 31, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

Nissan altima starting problem

This is definitely a camshaft sensor malfunction, you can get away with not replacing it for awhile but eventually when it goes the car will stop starting, the sensor will need to be replaced hence why your car isn't starting but intermittently. Its easy to do and will take about 30 minutes to do, its just a pain to get to.
