Go to this site and get yourself a manual:

http://www.carlsalter.com/motorcycle-manuals.asp

In short, you have changed, although only slightly, the gearing of the chain to the gearbox. I am not absolutely sure on the course of action but I think there is an adjustment screw/bolt or something somewhere to compensate for this. The manual will be able to show you what to do.

Bike chain

With a chain splitter! It's a good idea to change the front and rear sprockets too so buy the lot when you're buying the chain. Loosen the tension on the chain tensioners on the rear wheel. Split the links. Remove chain. Remove and replace sprockets. Replace chain and be sure to use a chain riveter to sort out the joint. Don't be tempted to use a split link as your bike is too big and powerful for one. Adjust your chain tension checking for tight spots etc. Apply lube and enjoy!

How do I tighten the chain on my 2002 750 honda shadow

You really should go to a shop to have it done, because it may be worn beyond service limits, and they can check that and the sprockets for wear.

But anyway, there should be some type of adjustment cams/bolts on the rear axle, the axle nut has to be loosened enough to adjust these on each side of the rear fork. Make absolutelyy sure the chain runs straight on the sprockets if you decide to DIY. The chain also has to have to proper amount of slack/tightness to compensate for the difference in the swing arm mounting point and the chain drive sprocket point axis.

only way to be sure is to count the teeth. most chains you buy are longer than need and you cut off the extra links.

How do you change the back tire on a 1988 honda shadow 600 vlx ??

you don't have a centerstand so you'll need a racestand or ATV jack to raise your bike up off the floor..Disconnect rear brake linkage, unbolt and remove axle, roll tire forward a couple inches and remove chain from rr sprocket, have tire fixed or replaced..reinstall is opposite of removal...Good Luck to you friend....Tim

Changin chain on 2002 honda shadow ace

Unless you are changing sprocket sizes you can not shorten the chain because removing even one link would not allow the ends to connect. Are you adjusting the chain as needed? Why do you want to shorten it?

Even if the factory chain has no master link (some are continuous these days) you can still grind off two pins carefully and push out a link to remove the chain, or simply cut it. That is what you must do when replacing the chain.
