Question about 2005 Honda VTX 1300 R

1 Answer

Once or twice a week, I have problems with the starter. I push the button and hear the starter spinning but nothing else happens. Hit the button a couple of times and it catches and starts. This problem appeared after I started using AMSOIL. Is the sprague clutch having problems catching with this slick oil or do I have a more serious problem? 2005 VTX 1300 R

I seriously doubt the brand of oil you use is going to affect the starter. If you are hearing the starter spin but only get sporadic engagement, the starter's bendix may be worn and needs to be replaced. There is a VTX forum you can go to with all manner of VTX guys there to answer your questions. The url is: http://www.vtxcafe.com/forum.php

Starter problems, Suggestions???

Starters tend to fail intermittently. Yes, if it started after a "whack", I woul suggest replacing your starter. Make sure all connections are tight and of course clean terminals and cables.

2011 street glide push starter button nothing happens

Do you hear a click?
Battery charged?

If the battery is charged, and you hear no click when you hit the button, start at the switch itself and check it and the wiring from it.

1996 Corvette will not start

You may have a loose battery cable or a corroded one, clean as needed. Also listen if you hear a "click" noise from the starter, if so replace the starter the starter solenoid contacts are burnt. I have a 1996 C4 and have had this problem twice now in 80,000 miles, both times it was the starter solenoid (it is rebuild-able). You can buy a new on on eBay for cheap.

2009 HARLEY DAVIDSON STREET BOB WILL NOT START. I JUST PUT IN A NEW BATTERY TODAY. I HAVE LIGHTS AND CAN HEAR THE FUEL PUMP KICK IN BUT NOTHING WHEN I HIT THE STARTER

If the battery cables were not thoroughly clean they might offer enough resistance to prevent the starter from spinning. That happened to me. I was on the road far from home. I had lights but it won't spin the starter. In fact it was so bad, the lights went off when I hit the starter.

I pulled the seat, removed the cables, scraped them clean with my jackknife, replaced the battery cables and it started right up.

Before you tear into it, double check the kill switch on the right handle grip. next to the start button there is a run switch. Be sure that is pushed down to the run position.

Problems starting bmw with push start button

It may be corrosion; If you hear a louder "click" it may be the contact on the starter solenoid down on the starter. If this is a recent development, this is a likely cause.

it is less likely but still remotely possible the push button itself has corrosion issues, or there is enough debris to insulate the contacts electically.

Went to start bike after sitting for a few weeks starter turned did not start then i tried it again and i could here it spinning which did not stop when i hit the kill switch or when i took out the key now...

starter relay/solenoid stuck open and drained the battery. charge the battery and replace the relay/solenoid. Sometime you can tap on the relay lightly with a hammer and get it to unstick and work but it's best to replace it.

The starter was working but not starting the car,

Well first you have to remember that starters are basically the same on all engines. I've worked on all of them. If you hear it spin up the starter but nothing happens, then it is probably a bad solenoid. It happens more than you would think. When you hit your ignition, your starter spins up, but that little solenoid is the one that is supposed to push the little gear on the end of the starter out to the flywheel and lock into place to start the ignition process. But if it does not work then the starter will just sit where it is and spin and not do anything.
