Question about 2004 Suzuki RV 125 VanVan

1 Answer

Bike will not start, but when it does as soon as you turn the throttle it cuts out. i was told that it was down to compression being low, so thay fitted new rings and head gaskets, it run fine for a few days but then did it again, so he replaced the gaskrts again and it lasted for 1 day before it happend again, now hes telling me it MIGHT need a new head and barrel, it sounds to me that the problem has been miss diagnosed. the bike has only done 17.500 miles, please can you help. No compression all 4 cyclinders cbr250rr

I am no expert by any means but I had a similar problem. turns out the governor was turned down too low. Everything starts up but dies. Another thing it might be would be the choke. I have this bike and some times the choke gets stuck open and floods the engine.

First my Stihl Quikcut was getting too much gas now after rebuilding the carb it's not getting enough

Not sure who told you about the compression but that is not true, are you sure the throttle rod is actually pushing the throttle shaft open?

Wheres the choke on a 49cc pocket rocket

The choke is on the carb. Check if the carb set screw is set right, turn it all the way in and then back out 1 1/4 turns. then fine tune by 1/4 turn increments.

My engine idle has been lowered due to it over revving when i put it back on the rad yesterday/. The garage told me the throttle bodies are knackered and need replacing they quoted £1500, any advice...

hi,i would be mighty surprised to find that the throttle bodies are knackered on such a new bike, the idle is set to low if it cuts out at low speed,i would be taking the bike to a reputable yamaha dealer and have the fuel system remapped before i started tearing throttle bodies apart, this is not expensive and if their is a fault then the dealers diagnostic system will pin point it exactly, these bikes go like stink and are normally very reliable and troube free, hope this helps...cheers

Hi i,ve got a cb900fz running very rich on cyls 2,3,4 the carbs appear to be standard i,ve recently fitted new air cut off valves float heights appear right but are plastic one piece units so non...

sound like the carbs need to be synced if throttle plates are fully closed at start it would cause a rich condition and no need for a choke becase there is very little air passing through mostly fuel if they are not eqaul there would be hesitation when opening throttles til about 1/4 throttle

Why is my 1988 1500 so hard to start new plugs , new fuel pump ,new filters , and carbs redone

Without the benefit of actually being able to look at a few things on the bike, I can only give you an idea. Since everything is new, there are two areas that could be a problem. The areas are in the fuel and compression areas.

I see you said that you had the carbs redone but the Gold Wing carbs have a reputation for not holding up very well. The carbs may have be rebuilt but they still might not be in the best shape. One other thing, since the bike uses an enricher system to start the engine instead of a choke, try starting the bike with the enricher on and the throttle fully closed. Some people try to "crack" the throttle when using the enricher circuit and this negates the purpose of the enricher. Leave the throttle completely closed and try that. Make sure the enricher works on both carbs too.

Next, you didn't say how many miles you have on the bike. Did you have a compression test run on the engine? If you have worn rings, a cam timing belt that is stretched, or valves that are not seating very well, you could be suffering from low cranking compression. This is cranking compression down around 50 psi or so. This is caused by the compression leaking down at the slow piston speeds when you're trying to get the engine started. Once started, the engine will run rather well but getting it started is a job. It might be time for a top end rebuild with new rings, cam drive belt, and valve job.

Low Fuel Cutting

ill fill up tomorrow morning. I slowed down to take a left hand turn. As soon as i started turning the bike started to cut out and hiccup like mad. I rode the corner out clutch in while giving it full wrist to keep it alive. As soon as the bike straightened back up it came back to life. It rained yesterday pretty hard so i drove to work but i bet $1000 dollars that if i fill it up today it will ride fine again. So the question is...clogged fuel filter, fuel pickup, fuel line? My guess is crap on the bottom of the tank and when low the fuel pickup is choking/starving on the sediment in turns. So im just throwing this out there, to see if anyone thinks this the right diagnosis. Thanks for any input.,Thats exactly what happens when you run out of fuel... so it could be a bad filter or pickup clogged.,,,
