Question about 1996 Suzuki GSX-R 750 T

1 Answer

Motorbike will not start

Bike has not been started for about 3 months, when I tried to start it last week...the battery was flat so I re-charged the battery. Then there was no power at all which I traced to a fuse at the selonoid ( I think thats what it is, its where the two cables from the battery first connect). The bike turns over now, but will not fire. It seems that it has no petrol however I can assure it has.....perhaps the petrol is not getting through. I might add the choke cable is stiff at the handlebar end therefore I was wondering if this could be the problem. NO CHOKE PERHAPS.

Thank you in anticipations

Dave

Before you stored it for the 3 months did you drain the carbs and petrol tank... if you havent then your probably right to think that fuel isnt flowing to the engine.. overtime petrol additives eveporate leaving a gunky residue in the float bowls of the carbs and clogging up the jets... so drain all the old fuel, clean the carbs and hopefully that should get you back on the road

Yamaha YBR Custom 125 won't start after sitting idle for 4 weeks. Blockage in fuel pipe?

Fuel does "go off" but it won't happen in just 4 weeks. But, the battery will lose some of its charge in that time. Charge the battery and try again. Good luck.

Bike batteries need full charge to start a bike, if there is less than full charge you can't even push start them. No click generally means no charge, the clicking sound is the solenoid working.
When you just start the bike and run it at idle, even fast idle. The battery does not get sufficient charge. What you take out of it to start it, is more than what you put back in it when you run it at idle. Bikes need to be at road speed to charge efficiently.
Also just sitting around they discharge, you may have an earth leak also. That causes your battery to discharge at a more accelorated rate than normal. If it has a clock in it, this bleeds off a small amount of power but still enough if it isn't being correctly charged.

Engine wont turn over at start

Hi, Do you have an alarm & Immobiliser fitted on your bike as these drain the battery on your bike very quickly? If so i would recommend removing your battery and fully charging it with a decent amp-age charger. If you have your garage attached to your house then i would definitely recommend purchasing a trickle charger and when not using your bike keep this plugged into the mains and you should not have this problem again. all motorbike shops sell these chargers If after this the battery goes flat again i would suggest purchasing a new battery. This is a common fault as most motorbikes sit in the garage through the winter months and if not kept on charge will deteriorate. Hope this helps.

Fail to start

I think I would change the petrol in the tank as it may have become a bit stale. Also I would replace the battery.Make certain the replacement battery in fully charged before you try again.

'79 CB 750 won't start back up after running for a while

I would take the bike and or the battery to Sears or any large auto parts store and let them test the condition of the battery and the chargeing system. They will do it for free.Bike batterys seem to only last 2 or 3 years.

New battery on new bike,it kills the batterys in 2 days

Either you have a dead short in your wireing or your battery is not charging fully. Use a volt meter your battery will have 12 volts start the bike and it should read 13 plus then take it up to 2000 rpm above idle anyway it should read 14 plus. If you dont have these numbers then you have a stator or regulator problem or both. You may be geting a slight charge when running but not enough to keep the battery peaked out.

Battery

If your bike was exposed to very hot or very cold weather for awhile that would be sufficient to weaken your battery. Heat and cold can drain a battery of power so it's important to check the battery hydro levels frequently and run a trickle charge during off-season.,,,
