ITS NOT REALY A PROBLEM I JUST WANT TO KNOW HOW YOU CHANGE THROUGH THE GEARS WHEN RIDING IS IT 4 DOWN 1 UP.ITS A 2001 SOFTAIL STANDARD

The last Harley-Davidson motorcycle to use the 1 up - 3 down was the 1973-74 Sprints. The U.S. law was adopted in 1974 effective with the 1975 and later models that required all motorcycles to shift on the left side and be in a 1 down and 3 or 4 up pattern. Today, they are still 1 down and the rest up. How many up is dependant on the year model. The last year for right side shift Sportsters was 1974. In 1975 and 1976, they put this funky crossover linkage under the bike to convert the right side shift transmission to a left side shift. Then, in 1977, Harley modified the cases and the transmission to be a true left side shift. Man, that was a long time ago. Means I'm old and I might not be totally correct but close enough.

I have a metallic noise from the clutch direction. only when i drive not when the Motor runnin in stand


I've heard this before and it turned out to be the front belt drive pulley was worn in the splines area where it goes on the transmission final drive gear. The tell tale sign is an oil leak from this area about the size of a quarter or half dollar after you ride. You can wipe the oil up and it won't leak anymore until you start the engine or ride the bike. This is oil running down the spines of the final drive gear due to loss of tension on the quad seal behind the pulley spacer. The metallic sound is the sheave of the pulley rubbing the backside of the inner primary. Check the oil level in your primary and your transmisson. If the transmission is low, this could be the reason.

What is a starter shift out bushing on an 2006 big twin custom built soft tail style with 100ci revtek motor


Is that the bushing that the starter gear shaft rides on going through the inner primary?Sorry,just a guess.

Mostly the ride ... the softails are a little harsher than the dynas,,, i would try a dyna and see if you like the smother ride - as far as performance..... an 04 of either model should be pleasing
