Hi,
The spark plug has shorted.. Just get a new spark plug and all will be well.
Also get new fuel.

Berry.

Engine will crank but want rev up charging system metered at 13.7 volts

Hi, Martie if your bike has been idle for months or years and does not want to start you will have to deal with a few remedies:
1. Drain and flush fuel tank, google " how to clean a motorcycle gas tank" find a couple forums to view the different options available.
2. Remove your air cleaner and clean and re-oil per Mfg. specifications.
3. Remove the carburetor, disassemble and decontaminate with a carb dip or if you have EFI remove injectors and clean with carb spray and compressed air
4. Remove fuel valve and filter disassemble and clean as necessary, remove fuel lines and replace with new ones.
5. Replace spark plug with a new one and check for spark.
Good luck and have a nice day.

1996 Polaris Sportsman 400 Will Not Start

If your atv has been sitting this long, the carb is probably stopped up internally... take the carb to a qualified professional and have it cleaned and set...(take a few pictures so you know where all the hoses re-attach)

ALL it takes for an engine to run is:
1. A timed spark
2. Adequate compression
3. Proper fuel/air ratio delivered

the ignition cant fail from sitting, perhaps the kill switch has corrroded, always put a spark plug in and ground it to the head when checking for spark , also check with a new spark plug

1998 Polaris 250 Trail blazer will not start

Your carb's jets are clogged or the shut off valve on the gas tank is clogged (old gas evaporates and leaves a varnish like substance that will close up the small openings in the carb or the valve). Try some carb cleaner first (no guarantees here). Usually it requires removing the carb and soaking it in cleaner and maybe even opening up the jets and fuel lines with a fine wire from a wire brush or welders torch tip cleaning tool. If you don't know how, then take it to a small engine repair shop. They will know what to do.
