Mazda RX8 won't start, Engine will crank but won't start.

Mazda RX8 won't start. I didn't drive my car for like a month and my battery drained. I suspected a loose terminal as the cause of it. I took the Battery to the local Mazda Dealership and they charged it for free and when i reinstalled it i started my car problem free but i turned it off right away. The next day when i put the key in ignition and turn it the engine will crank and not start. Messed with the terminal a bit and got it real tight but same problem. Any help or insight would be be appreciated.

You have flooded the engine if you go too you fuse box and take out the fuel pump fuse turn the engine over for a while this gets rid of the fuel left in the cups in the engine replace the fuse try it again it will start

The RX8 is very prone to flooding. It almost always floods if you do a very short trip, like reverse out of garage and switch off. To avoid the problem use the following routine when switching off the engine. Put it in neutral rev the engine to 3000 rpm or so and switch ignition off straight away.

I had an RX-7 before that sat for a few months and then would start. What happens is the seals on the rotor dry out (of oil) and then don't seal so the engine can't build compression. If you pull-start the car an spin the engine at a moderate rpm, it will circulate oil through the engine as it it were running (don't push the gas or it might flood), just pull it for awhile, and then mine started up. Only every once in awhile as your pulling it (with engine spinning) do you test the gas pedal to see if it might fire. If this is an automatic, then you can try squirting some oil into the rotors through the spark plug holes and crank on it, and squirt more and crank a bit and squirt a little more until you feel that you've got oil on the tips of all the rotors (there are 3 tips on each rotor - like a triangle), then crank a bit (if it's fuel injected crank with the throttle to the floor which turns off the injectors, also on carbed models wide open throttle makes zero vacuum and will not draw fuel so it can't flood. Then put the plugs back in and try starting it. Hope this helps

Changed battery in rain have lights engine turns over but no fire

The rx8 has the rotary ankles engine in it, these have porcelain tipped rotors instead of pistols and are prone to wear resulting in them not starting. The car should start with a bump or toe start. This will require an engine strip down and rebuild and should only be carried out by a qualified mechanic. (Mazda recommend rotors be replaced every 25000 miles)

Mazda 2005 RX-8 wont start... ran yesterday, lights on & sounds

I have a 2004 that had the same problem. It sounds like the engine might be flooded. The best thing to do is to remove the fuse to the fuel pump. It will be listed under the fuse cover under the hood. Mine was a 20 amp but check to be sure. With the fuse removed, crank the engine for a minute to remove any fuel flooding the engine. Replace the fuse and crank the engine in 10 second intervals without touching the gas or you will reflood the engine. This process can sometimes take awhile and will drain your battery, so have it connected to an additional power source ( i.e. another car battery or jump box). When the car finally cranks over there will be a huge cloud of smoke so don't be alarmed when it happens. Lastly some words to the wise. This process CAN ruin your starter, but is essentially the same process that the dealership will you except that they will remove the spark plugs to drain the fuel and then charge you for new ones. If this process doesn't work then you probably need new spark plugs which is going to cost quite a bit. I was quoted upwards of $525 to fix this problem until I talked to a Mazda mechanic and found out how to do this myself. Just make sure that the engine is up to running temperature before turning the car off and you shouldn't encounter this problem again. I hope this helps you, and remember that if all else fails the dealer can fix it. It won't be cheap, but they will get it done.

I almost forgot, you HAVE to get the oil changed as soon as possible because there is probably gas in the oil now.

My Mazda RX8 2004

I will never buy a mazda again. They have bad transmissions and engines. What is worse they use the same parts as Ford. How in the world do you combine a japanese and american parts into one engine? It keeps breaking down, thats what happens. I would ride it out since you are already gettin an engine but if you haven't purchased it, sell it and put that money towards another car, the dealer has used you like a gold digger.

2004 Mazda RX8

Had the same problem today with flooded engine. I tried new plugs ($86.00) and used the clear flood mode but to no avail. Spoke to a tech at the mazda dealership and odd as this sounds it worked. On the right side of the engine on the intake about half way down the runner you will find 2 rubber plugs that cover vacumn ports. The front one is the easier of the 2 to access, hook up a piece of vacumn hose to that port, on the other end you need to hook up a funnel. You will have to adapt the hose up to get it to fit. Remove the fuel pump relay, it is the blue relay at the front of the fuse box and is closest to the radiator. Pour a half to 3/4 quart of transmission fluid in the funnel and have someone crank the engine(with a battery charger or jumper cables hooked to your battery so you won't run the battery down). Leave throttle closed, as the fluid gets sucked down you will here engine compression build and it will act like it is going to start, at that point while it is still being cranked stick the fuel pump relay back in. It should then start, it may spit and sputter but it will run. Remove the hose from the vacumn port and reinstall port plug. The car will smoke for quite awhile but the smoke will finally disipate. From start to finish it only took about 2 min. to get the car started. I asked him if that much fluid would hurt it and he said no. He also said that they see this problem a couple of times a week. He also said that they don't take the plugs out and clean prior to doing the procedure, it will work on the old plugs. This saved me a tow to the dealership and probably a couple hundred dollars.
