Can i use a bigger pilot jet with factory main jet


Pull the spark plug and see what it looks like with the original jet. it should be light brown and not covered with goo. If it is then the 40 is too big, If you change it out, drive it a while and check the plug again. The jet size is dependent on altitude and a smaller jet is better at high altitude so that you dont run rich.

Re-jet carb and now idles rough with popping and stuttering


Try to adjust valves sometimes small gap will cause engine to respond rough if valves are not adjusted. Good Luck.

I'm hitting 96,000 miles and thinking about changing out the spark plugs. I'm looking for more than factory something along the lines of performance. Maybe the e3 plugs! Any advice?


I would stick with the factory recommended sparkers....you aren't going to feel or see much of a performance boost with some exotic or expensive set of plugs - you might be able to measure a spark size difference in a lab, but from the driver's seat....(my opinion is) you're just fooling yourself if you think pricey plugs are making a perceivable difference in performance. If you have a few extra dollars, put it into a high quality air filter - that will give you better airflow & less restriction, and that will give you a better boost for your dollar in the performance section...

dont Change the you need to Change your afr air fuel mix to work with the new pipe changing the main will be to much of a change but first see how it rides but if your doing it for more power or speed the best size main jet is the right one ether the one from the dealer if in your area or u need to find the right one for your area

The previous owner had the carbs jetted I don't know what size he added or whatever. But everything else is stock. The problem I'm having is the bike runs really bad and the fumes are bad when idling but...


Hi there,

The jets are for increased performance but the jets installed must be in relation to the pipe used. An open pipe would require larger jets. If the jets came with the pipe when the previous owner purchased it, then it should work. My advise would be to tune it up, sync the carbs, and time the sparks.

If all else fail, ask the previous owner to provide the stock jets and replace it. Stock jets along with the stock pipe will almost always run the first time. Sync the carbs and tune timing. If you have it all running smooth, from there you can do upgrades like stage 1 jet kit or purchase a performance exhaust.

What is the factory settings on the car jets


Dont know what you are trying to set. Only thing about the jets you can set outside of changing the jet size is the little clip on the main jet needle top. Normally the middle groove.
You can pop the factory plugs on the primary jets (idle jets) and mess with them a little to richen or lean it out a bit but they are preset at the factory. Normally a bit lean.

Bike sputtering & change of exhaust may nedd re-jetting??


generally when installing after market performance exhaust, jetting the carb is necessary. until you get ahold of the previous owner and find out if the carb has been jetted, you can try and adjust the fuel air mixture screw and see if that helps. and like any engine especially bikes, it is possible to sieze the piston. it can be riden, but be careful of over heating. hope this helps...
