Question about 2004 Suzuki GSX-R 1000

Hi i,ve got a cb900fz running very rich on cyls 2,3,4 the carbs appear to be standard i,ve recently fitted new air cut off valves float heights appear right but are plastic one piece units so non adjustable all air passageways have been blown through with compressed air pilot air screws 1 3/4 turns out no external flooding bike starts without choke backfires and bogs down at low throttle openings but responds a bit better at 1/4+ throttle openings plugs have been changed twice inlet rubbers changed which if were leaking would make it lean?to my eye float needles seem ok and choke flaps appear to be going off with choke any other ideas appreciated thanks richard

Sound like the carbs need to be synced if throttle plates are fully closed at start it would cause a rich condition and no need for a choke becase there is very little air passing through mostly fuel if they are not eqaul there would be hesitation when opening throttles til about 1/4 throttle

Why FZR600 seems to lose two cylinders while driving, carb or spark problem?


if carbs are clean and not flooding etc then try finding out which cyls are off then swop plug caps over from good cyls and see if problem moves , if yes then fit a set of 4 new plug caps ! if no then do carbs again !!

'81' GS550L Breaks Up Over 5000 RPM, Blows Black Smoke, Runs Normal Up To That Point, Valve & Ign. Timing Right, Good Compression, Float Height, OK


It could be jetted too rich,the choke could be engaging at WOT,or,you could most likely have weak valve springs which are "floating" the valves at higher RPM's.Also,you might try lowering the needles in the carbs by a couple clicks.

Hi Anonymous, it is ok to slightly bend the float tang in order to achieve proper float height and the usual suspects are:
1. Dirt or other foreign matter between float valve and its seat.
2. Float valve sticking.
3. Float valve and/or valve seat worn or damaged.
4. Float misadjusted.
5. Float cracked, leaky or damaged.
6. Excessive "PUMPING" of hand throttle grip.

Problem with starting my bike


Sticking floats or worn float valve needles or incorrect float height, tap float bowls to see it overflow stops (sticky float), remove and clean float bowls and fuel inlet passage with carb cleaner and compressed air, check float valve for wear to the rubber tip. Reset float height by slightly bending the metal tab on the float to adjust the closing height of the valve measure from the carb bowl mating surface to the top of the float when fitted then re adjust 1mm at a time higher untill fuel doesnt over flow.

Fuel leaking out of a hose that ends right above the 6 way gas line valve right below the gas tank at the top of the engine. it looks like a vent hose about 3/8". have not started in 1 1/2 years it...


You need to remove carbs, clean float bowls, remove floats, fuel cut off valve under float, quite a big task so recomended fit new cut off valve in each carb, check also throttle slide mooves freeley before replacing, recently done the same job for customer, you could just clean float cut off valve but at twelve pounds each

Hi (.honda cb 400-4) float posts damaged on original carbs.so replacements stripped & cleaned out i also fitted new jets adjusted float heights.to 21mm or 22mm (miss informed by a haynes manual).valve...


Were the jets the same size? Just because the numbers were the same does not assure you that someone has not used a jet drill to enlarge them. Pull the low speed jets and compare them with the old ones, using a wire gauge or set of number drills.

My honda 400 bros is not runing right 1 plug is wet the rest is sutted up as if runing rich what would think it is


Sooted plugs proves tht the air-mixture is too rich.(too much fuel going to the combustion chamber)
You have to set the air-mixture screw on the carb/s.
Clean the carb/s, replace 'inline' filter , if you don't have one ..install one, reset float level.
It's better to also check the valve clearance too.
Fit in new plugs (gapping them to specs.) and run the engine to its normal temperature thn set the air-mixture screw...standard setting....all the way in i.e. tighten it slowly to the end making sure not to damage the tip of the screw, thn 2 and half turns outwards to 3.
Start the engine....run to normal temperature and thn reset the air-mixture screw +/- either way.
