Either a bad, loose, or dirty ground cable or bad solenoid.

Most likely problem is a loose connection of one of the battery cables. Check them all at both ends. Tighten any loose connections.

Battery seems fine good lights on dash when turned on but will not turn engine over it won`t even try

There are several possibilities for you to investigate. When the key is in the start position do you should hear a click from the starter solonoid? If so then you know that power is getting to the starter solonoid which eliminates a bad ignition switch. In that case you may have a bad starter. If you hear no click then you must get a test light and use it to see if power is getting to the starter solonoid. Ground the light and place the tip on the energizer wire to the solonoid. When an assistant turns the key to the start position the test light should light. This tells you power is where it should be and the solonoid is not working. If there is no power there then you must suspect a bad ignition switch or a bad wire in between the switch and the starter. Hope this helps.

Big red honda 300cc 4 wheeler. Starter solonoid just clicks. Battery fully charged. solonoid has 2 wires from battery and a long double wire sealed into the solonoid. Question: How do you replace the...

if you can pull the rubber cover off the solenoid you will see two nuts that are the cable terminals, short across these with a screwdriver or similar(may make a spark) if this causes the starter to turn you probably need a solenoid. You could also try a multi meter or test light on the terminal to the starter, it should have power when you press the start button, if not , new solenoid. to change it disconnect the battery , undo the two cable nuts, and follow the other wire back to its connecter

Will not start

Try this. Turn on headlite then try to start.Watch lite,if it goes real dim to off trouble is battery. If lite does not change, still bright, trouble is bad starter,or bendix or solonoid.Starter is not requesting power so lite stays bright.Don,t forget to check ground wires at battery and frame. You changed battery check connections.

So the engine wont turn over at all? Well, we know the fuse is good since the fuel solonoid is getting power. Do you have a test light? Locate the starter solonoid, check for power to the small spade on the starter solonoid when the key is turned to the start position. Be sure the brake pedal is depressed, the pto is disengaged, and that the seat switch is depressed.
If you have power to the small spade then check the large posts for power. The battery side should have power all the time and the starter side should have power when key is turned to start. If you have power from battery and power from key switch but no power to starter then the starter solonoid is suspect.
If solonoid tests good and power is getting to starter but starter doesnt engage then starter is suspect.
If no power to small spade on starter solonoid then you will have to do some back tracking. It could be the key switch, one or more of 3 safety switches or bad wire/ bad connections

Starting problem S&S 96 CI engine

sounds like the starter solonoid is not working properly if the batt cable got hot enough to smoke that says the batt, is ok and it is ok to jump with car, the solonoid is making the clicking noise and a real hot batt sometimes will make it work, the repair is simple and cheap if you are talented just get a solonoid repair kit three screws 5 min, and you are RIDEING.

Hi tabyron, before you attack your starter load test the battery and make sure the terminals are clean and not corroded also make sure the starter connections are tight and that the solenoid ground strap are in good shape when you do this and have the truck running check the alternator output. If it turns out that the starter is the culprit I personally prefer to change it out solenoid and all. hope this helps you good luck

At the starter, check the fusible links. It really sounds like the starter had quit on you though. The solonoid which is connected to the starter has quit working. the starter and solonoid are 1 unit. Definitely do some shopping for this part at the different part stores in your area, prices vary. Hope this helps.
