I HAVE GOT A 2002 CHEVY EXPRESS 1500 VAN AND THE REAR BRAKES ARE NOT WORKING AT ALL. I PUT NEW WHEEL CYLINDERS ON THE BACK BLED AND AJUSTED BRAKES BUT IT DID NOT MAKE ANY DIFFERANCE AT ALL. IT DOES HAVE ANTILOCK BRAKES ON FRONT BUT THAT SEEMS TO BE OK. I DROVE THE VAN ON A SNOW COVERED ROAD I OPENED THE DOOR AND WATCHED THE REAR WHEELS WHEN I LOCKED THE BRAKES UP AND THE REAR WHEELS JUST KEPT ON ROLLING NOT STOPPING AT ALL. ANYBODY GOT ANY IDEAS? HELP

Bad master cylinder seal must replace master cylinder

  • Anonymous Jan 13, 2010

first you have some one in the van stepping on the brakes you crack open the line at the master cylinder, fluid should come blasting out with force. do this several times to each line if you can't get the pressure up then master cylinder is bad. replacement costs about 70 dollars. in most cases one line has no pressure usually the rear brakes.

Corsica brakes

I'll assume you want this fixed.
Here goes:
The reason it wouldn't bleed is likely the bleeder was plugged up, or maybe the wheel cylinder or caliper was stuck.
The reason it is overheating and shaking is the brakes are engaged, and are locking up as you drive.
You will need to go back to that wheel that wouldn't bleed and find out why it wouldn't.
If you don't wish to take the wheel cylinder or caliper apart and fix (clean? overhaul? ) it, you may choose to replace it instead. Be sure to open the bleeder valve before you install the new one, makes it easier to bleed.
Be blessed.

2006 chevy express 2500. While changing the brakes on my van, a rivet and clip pulled through the rear wheel dust plate, I'm unsure on how to fix this as now one half of the shoe is rubbing agains

get a washer welded in its place but if you dont want to go that way you will need to pull the brake shoes the drive axle just to get to the backing plate so you can remove the old one and install a new one

1999 Ford E350 van problem: brake pedal is soft; have replaced master cylinder, rear wheel cylinders, rear brake shoes and drums, front calipers, rotors and discs; have bled master cylinder before...

Good question, on the antilock system is a bleader too and bleade it the same way you bleade the caliper. After all is done adjust the rear brakes, they should have a drag to them.

make sure you are bleeding them by doing them as an abs system,do the right rear then the left front, then the left rear then the right front, the opposite wheels are how the system brakes.

2002 GMC Sierra 1500 rear brakes

Hi joelalthomas, if they replaced your brakes and you never even made it home they had better warranty the work and as for the "it was a common problem on 2002-2004 trucks" well check for Chevy recalls as this is a safety issue that would have been corrected at no expense to the vehicle owner, do a little more research my friend and let me know what happens, I will check around a little as well in the meantime I would find a new garage.Do not pay any more as you said your brakes worked fine until they worked on it good luck to you As for your 4x4 did you look at the left side when you did the right side? and were they bled off properly? you can visually check to see if the calipers are functioning
