I bought a used 2000 astro van. it ran great the first weekend. after sitting for 5 days it wouldn't start. junped the battery & still wouldn't start. took the battery & had it charged all day. started right up. ran it a couple of days, then it sat for 3 days. it wouldn't start. i have put in a new battery. i have changed the fuel filter and jumped the solenoid (it works) so far. still won't start. coud it be fuel pump, starter? any other directions i might look?
thanks,
gene vecellio
I'm guessing you checked the fuses already, so if you have spark at the plugs, look for a vacuum leak. If you still suspect the fuel pump, do a fuel pressure test.
Testimonial: "thanks for the reply. the vacuum sounds like something to look at. when the van would start, if i had my foot on the brake pedal, it would kick back"
Vacuums can be pressure tested with a hand pump, without turning the car on. They have such devices, already adapted for such uses at any automotive parts retailer.
On the original point of note, such devices usually can be used to check for compression to see if you have a leak in your head gasket.
