2001 Chrysler Voyager 3.3 flexfuel motor 123K tranny in limp mode
2001 Chrysler Voyager 3.3 flexfuel motor. 123K miles. The newly replaced used transmission is still in limp mode. The sensors on the tranny test out good. The tranny in there now has 41K on it, and was refilled with ATF 4 fluid to the proper level. According to the computer a friend hooked up to it, there is no power going to the tcm or possibly to the solenoid pack. The engine temperature (also taken off the computer) is 3 degrees . I know it is normally cold in MN at this time of year, but 3 degrees even once the motor is warmed up???? I rechecked all the connections, and looked at the wire harness to see any flaws there too. Any suggestions for me?

Whenever you service an electronic transmission gearbox you need reset the memory soon after and before using it you go to the transmission mode then erase all errors
Chrysler/Dodge,transmission computer's lock it into "Limp Mode", when it detects any transmisson problems. It will need scanned at a transmission repair garage Because the scanner diagnostic tool they use looks into transmission functions and errors, much deeper than a all purpose scanner tool. .Possibly an "Input" , "Output" speed sensor" or a bad solinoid pack. ( all 3 are external transmission parts.. These are very common to go bad and much cheaper than a complete, tranny rebuild.. But many rip off, tranny garages tell people that the transmission needs a complete rebuild.($1500. to $1800.) Watch out for this. It is possible that it needs rebuilt, but an honest tranny mechanic will let you know, either way.
How many miles on that rig? The 4.7 motor is a great motor.
Sounds like a fuel starvation issue. Might also be a trans issue. Does the trans seem to be shifting properly?? Could it be starting in 2nd gear which is the "limp mode" for Chrysler trannies?
I doubt you going to get a code from the transmission. Im surprised that shop you have it taken to cant tell you what is the problems. If you have high miles as 100k chances are the tranny is worned and need service or replacing. Transmissionrearly grind or make a grinding noise, the brakes will make the grinding noise due to the worned pad as metal rubbing on metal, have all breaks check. If the van is 5speed, yes I can see the tranny will make a grinding noise VS automatic transmission. I would take it to another shop and get another opinion or take it to the dealer which they usually charge 70-75 buck to have it diagnose. If tranny need replacing check ebay to junk yard, is lot cheaper and as good than having it rebuilt.
Unplugging battery wont resolve this issue. I bet theres a code in there somewhere. I have the same problem with my voyager and replaced everything under the sun to no avail
It's in limp home mode. You'll have to check wire connections and electronic controls. If it has a vacuum modulator you can remove it and look for trans fluid on the vacuum hose side (meaning ruptured diaphram). Double check the parts you replaced as well, especially if they were used parts. My dad went through three speed sensors in one year on his Caravan. You should drop the pan after checking other components. It could be a bad relay, shorted module or wire. The three speed transmissions are much more reliable than the four speed overdrive transmissions but with age and miles things can go wrong and parts will wear out.
I had the same problem with my 94 Concord. After reading the Factory repair manual I took the car to a close friends transmission shop. He up dated some of the parts with Heavy duty parts. Its been fine with 35,000 more miles on it.
Have u checked w/ scan tool for codes? If not, have garage, dealer, or parts store (free service at most parts stores) check for stored codes, and as u know, Chrysler is known for their c_rappy trannys,. I just had mine rebuilt at 125k (I changed the fluid and filter every 30k, but still failure). Limp mode is to protect from further damage, so something is going on. If no stored codes, drop the trans pan, check for metal in pan and on magnet, color of fluid, burnt odor? Let me know what u find. good luck
Did you clear the codes from the PCM before you tried out the new trans
