The engine light is not a worry. When you change a battery on a speed four the management system resets. What you need to do is let the engine go through a cycle of reaching working temperature and cooling again. This allows the management system to relearn the working parameters. Once this is done the engine light will go out.

I think your alternator needs repair/replacing. Of course it could be several other things, for example, your charging rectifier may have burned out. If you can find it, you can test it with a contunity checker. Power should pass in only one direction. If it passes in both directions, it can charge (sort-a) but it will also drain the battery. And, it might be time to replace your battery.

My concern is your 'check engine' light. I would expect this light is tellng you the alternator is not putting out.

I suggest you have your Triumph looked at by a professional. You certainly don't want to be pushing that thing home some dark and rainy nigh with your date on the back!

If getting a jump of which do I hook up first positive or negative

When Connecting jump leads ALWAYS Positive first, (Red), Negative last, (Black).
When Removing jump leads ALWAYS Negative first, (Black) and Positive last, (Red).
ALWAYS make sure you DON'T touch the negative to the positive at any time! (Loads of sparks and you risk damaging the battery).
Safest way I have found is this.
With the engine on BOTH vehicles turned OFF. Connect up to the flat battery first, then connect to the good battery. ONLY start the vehicle with the good battery. Wait 2 or 3 minutes to let some charge cross to the dead battery then start the vehicle with the dead battery.
The dead battery will need to be fully charged as soon as possible.

The battery is almost bead, the car won't start, how do I jump start my touareg 2006 V6

place the positive lead from the jump battery to the positive terminal of the dead battery. take the negative lead from the jump battery and place it on the engine or other metal point--- NOT TO THE NEGATIVE TERMINAL OF THE BATTERY-- If you do then you run a real risk of a power surge that will fry the ECM
However with a dead battery if the cells are failed then the power from the jump battery will probably feed the dead short in the dead battery and it may not work
Best have a load test done on the dead battery to see if it is faulty (cold weather) or just flat

How to use a compact jump start system

The Jump Start replaces another vehicle when jump starting. Make sure unit is fully charged. If you need a jump start because of a dead battery in your car, connect Red lead to + battery post on your dead battery and Black lead form jump start to - battery post on dead battery. Turn unit on and start vehicle.

How do I give my car a boost my battery is dead on my 2009 cts where do I charge my battery at

To jump start a car there is a set procedure that has to be followed to prevent ECM damage from power surge. Connect the positive lead form the jumping battery directly to the positive terminal of the dead battery. Next connect the negative lead from the jumping battery to the engine (Any place that is metal--head stud--lifting bracket-etc) to charge the battery remove the terminals and connect the charger as directed. However I would suggest that you have a load test done on the battery to check for a dead cell or jumping will achieve nothing

2005 Jeep Liberty, does not re- start, does not crank, no solenoid click.

From your description it seems as if the relay is bad or else the battery is shorting out inside and needs to be replaced. I would change the relay to start.

My daughter car battery went dead had a jump start but her cousin put the leads on the wrong terminal could this have blown the main fuse as no lights at all put new battery on today

Yes this will defiantly blow the main engine fuse. This fuse is located in the engine compartment and is usually bolted down with 10mm bolts.

The bike was running fine in the evening. Rode to work parked the bike took the key out. The battery was dead in the morning. Put the 10 amp charger on and the motor started to turn over with the key off!...

your starter button is malfunctioning. maybe some oxidation in the switch. when starter button is pressed in that can cause your other electrical stuff to not work.

How do I jump start the car? The battery is dead

YOU DO.
Pull another car or battery to front of car ,,and get the set of jumper wires (RED/BLACK) Red lead goes to Poss term (the biggest one) on both cars ..
Then the black lead goes to the earth side of battery
When started let engine run for 2 minutes and then remove the Black lead first on both cars then the Red lead, then let it run for about another 6 minutes or take it for a drive ,,,but connect the leads around the correct way to batterys......
