Car was running kinda rough, one day was driving down road going 60, bam. The car lost almost all power, pedal to the metal, wouldn't go above 15 - 20 MPH? Couldn't make it up a big hill either.

The O2 sensors seem to be fouled and acting up and are probably causing all your problems. I would start by replacing them and carefully checking the wiring to make sure it has not be damaged (e.g. burned by the exhaust system).

The traction control is disabled light comes on the dash. The Suburban will only go 20mph. This has happened twice in the last week. After letting it set for a bit and restart the problem goes away. ...

If this is a newer Suburban he maybe right. The truck may have throttle by wire. Which would have a small motor on the throttle body. If this part was bad it would put the truck in a limp mode. Which would make the truck go slow. This could cause the TC light to come on but the check engine light should be on too. If you don't think he is right get a money back guarantee If the part doesn't fix it you don't pay. Tell him this is the only way you will do the work there.

Truck has a four cylinder engine in it the

have your fuel pump operation checked as well as the fuel filters if its ok then you might be having problem with your idle speed sensor or the throttle position sensors/ your electronic fuel injectors might need a good cleaning as well have your car checked by a garage with electronic testing equipments to check signals fed by your sensors to your ICU is ok or not (electronic control unit)...

98 GMC k2500 7.4L Rouch Idle

TRY THIS BEFORE U SPEND ANYMORE MONEY N PARTS.
Here is the common cause of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake

TRACTION CONTROL.

that is what it is desgined to do - reduce acceleration and apply the brakes intermittently when the wheels spin. You have a switch you cn push to disable it. You need to disable each time you start car. See owner manual.

06-10: Traction Control 1996 Contour, Mystique Workshop Manual
DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION Traction Control System The optional traction control system is designed to control wheel spin when accelerating on slippery or loose surfaces. Traction control system is available only with anti-lock brakes. The traction control system includes the following components:
  • Hydraulic control unit.
  • Throttle control actuator (9N825).
  • Traction control switch.
  • Traction control warning indicator.
  • Front brake anti-lock sensor (2C204).
  • Rear brake anti-lock sensor (2C190).
The traction control system operates as follows:
  • System functions by transferring torque from the spinning wheel to the wheel with the most traction.
  • This is achieved by applying the brake at the spinning wheel through the hydraulic control unit or reducing the throttle opening.
  • Traction control braking and throttle control occur at vehicle speeds up to 50 km/h (30 mph).
  • At vehicle speeds above 50 km/h (30 mph), only throttle limiting control is used.
  • If speed control is operating when traction control system engages the traction control system will disengage speed control through the use of a speed control relay. This action is the same as applying the brake pedal with speed control engaged.
1996 contour
Traction Control Switch The traction control switch is located on the instrument panel, left of the steering column.
