1.Requires it to be run in Windows XP Compatibility mode.
2.Ftm.exe is not signed aka doesn't have a publisher prompting user account controls in Windows 8. (Security issue)

Compatibility mode for FTM 2012 in Windows 8:
1.From desktop, right mouse click on FTM Icon on the taskbar
2.Hover over "Family Tree Maker 2012" and right mouse click again to get Properties
3.Click on Properties
4.Choose Compatibility tab
5.Under "Compatibility mode", check box "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack 3)" Side note: after utilizing "Run compatibility troubleshooter" this is the resolution I got.
6.Click okay and test to see if program opens properly.

Note: due to the ftm.exe not having publisher info, each time I open file, I get security prompt to allow unknown publisher to make changes to my computer. Family Tree Maker must address this issue.

I have not used Windows 7 for some time, but I think PDF is one of your printer choices. You should be able to choose print from within FTM, and use the drop down printer menu to choose PDF as the printer. FTM also has a help section on their website.

The short answer is yes, Family Tree Maker 2010 is fully compatible with Windows 7.
The Family Tree Maker team has been working with Windows 7 for several months-even prior to the release of Family Tree Maker 2010. Family Tree Maker 2008 and 2009 are also compatible with Windows 7.

I have experienced a problem with the some printing options to PDF format, and I need to find a amyuni document converter to overcome this problem. Everythings else works and will not cause any problems to your existing files you have compiled
