Hi, the first thing to check is that the spark plug cap is ok unscrew the spark plug cap off the ignition wire coming from the coil, once its off check that the end of the ignition wire their is some wire visible that the spark plug cap screws into if their is no wire visible then you can cut about half an inch of the ht lead or untill you see a good bit of wire once you have done this then try starting.

If how ever the wire is ok you need to check you have a spark going to the plug to do this removethe spark pluk then push it back onto the spark plug cap then rest the little prong at bottom of spark plug and something metal on the engine such as the cylinder head then kick the bike over and look at the plug to ensure you have a good bright soark.

If you have no spark then this could be down to the imobiliser if you have one fitted or it could even be that the coil has packed up this would need testing and replacing if needed.

If how ever you have a good spark at the plug then this would indicate one of a couple things the first would be a problem with the fuel system but if yours is injection and not carb type then this wont be the cause, if it is carb type then let me know ok.

Or the other problem you could have is piston ring failure or cylinder head gasket failure this would also need testing with compression tester.

Let me know if you have a good spark at the plug and if yours is carb in injection then i can assist you further ok.

Let me know how you get on ok

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, a couple of checks for a no spark / fire on a Honda CR 250:

  • check / replace the plugs if have not been tried;
  • check / clean / replace the plug's cap wire;
  • check engine stop button or temporarily disconnect the black/white wire from the ICM (ignition control module) to the engine stop switch. Try again;
  • check for high pulsating voltage between the blue and the white wire from the exciter coil going to the ICM;
  • check for low pulsating voltage between the green/white and the blue/yellow wire from the ignition pulse generator going to the ICM;
  • check for high pulsating voltage between the black/yellow and the green wire to the ignition coil coming from the ICM;
Reference below wiring diagram.

I HAVE A 2003 HONDA - e231613.jpg

Note that the green wire is tied to the chassis / engine ground

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

AIR,FUEL,SPARK AND COMPRESSION.

I'm try to cover as much as possible.

=====

As a test,remove the air cleaner for now.

=====

Get a drop cloth to cover metal parts,pull the fuel line and do you get gravity fuel flow.

Remove fuel line vent and test fuel flow.

=====

Use a ohm meter to check the engine kill switch.

=====

Disconnect the CDI unit and clean the contacts on both end with CDC Electronic part cleaner (or similar).

Is CDI look damage or wet?

Is the plug fouled?
Use a torch to heat the plug to burn off excess fuel.

=====

Check compression
75 to 100 psi?

=====

Start with these check points.

Please post result on the comment window.

I will follow up later.

Does it have spark? if not does the coil get power when you kick it over? use a test light on the power side of coil while someone kicks it and see if it lights. if so you may have a pick up coil(crank sensor) issue. but more commonly the coils go before it does. let me know what test you have done and if it is spark related or if you have spark have you checked compression? if you don't have a compression tester then remove spark plug and hold finger over the hole while you kick it and see if you have a strong push. let me know thanks

    look you need to awnser some question and give us some more info to help you. there is no way we can tell you what wrong with a statment like "I HAVE A 2003 HONDA CR 250 THAT WILL NOT FIRE"

    there is no way! you want me to say yea you need a coil! then you go and buy a coil and it is not it then you wasted time and money? the most common thing if your not getting spark is a coil but doesn't mean it is your problem. you need to get a test light and do some testing. i can't do it over the computer so get a test light and i will help you in every step to test it. let me know if you want to fix it and want help doing so. if not your gonna get a bunch of guess's with that much info.

Do you get a good fat "blue" spark on the plug when you kick it over with the plug grounded?
See if it too kicks easily. (Worn out rings)
Is you plug getting wet with fuel, verify that your carburator isn't gummed up or dirty.
Make sure the air filter isn't totally plugged up. (This will give you a very soaked spark plug)
If you are not getting any spark, remove the left side flywheel cover and look for corrosion. Might have to pull the flywheel.

Hi,

Try unplugging the power commander from the system and let me know if that works. also, does the pump sound any different than normal? Cause these bikes will throw a code for pretty much anything ignition related. So low fuel pressure will cause this type of symptom with no code. but try removing the PWR CMNDR and see if that works.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!
