Question about 2007 Yamaha Royal Star Venture

2 Answers

This past riding season I began to notice a few drops of oil directly under my rear shock on my Royal Star Venture. It's an 07 with 35,000 miles on it. My wife & I ride 2 up most of the time and occasionally pull a trailer. What should I do about this. I know a new shock is about $600, but I have to think that their is a cheaper fix. Am I right.?

First I must state I'm not familiar with your particular model but AM familiar with rear shocks.(have re-built hundreds)
First thin to check is that if it is re-buildable!
The easiest way to tell this is to see your dealer and ask to see the parts fisch for the rear shock. If it displays a seal assembly then it is re-buildable.
Also you could try a local shock repairer/suspension tuner, they should Know.
Here in Australia a shock re-build costs about $300-$350 if the shock shaft hasn't got wear damage to the chrome.(They can be re-chromed)

If the shaft is worn then its not much different to the price of a new one I'm afraid.
As the shock is charged with nitrogen gas to high pressure I would NOT RECOMMEND you to try rebuild it yourself !!!!
But removing it yourself, while a little tricky sometimes, can save some$

Hope this helps a little

P.S. To find a shock repairer in your area try the classified section at the back of your favorite road bike magazine!!!

There is no quick fix for a shock, the seal started leaking so this means that you will have to replace the shocks. the seal is worn out Infact the shocks should of been replaced at least 10,000 miles ago to insure that you are getting the best ride and tire contact as possible You maybe able to find a set online cheaper infact I just checked around I found some aftermarkets shocks for 176.00 each

I have a 2002 Royal Star Midnight Venture that I recently purchased with only 4,400 miles on it. I have put 3,000 miles on bike since I purchased in about 3 weeks time fram. I noticed in the final drive in...

Okay, possible problem is the final drive isn't quite the final drive because they transfer the power through the final drive to a inner sprocket looking affair which has rubber pumpers or pads to take up the shock. It's not metal on metal it's a rubber drive.

Hard to explain but, what you are hearing is the drive cogs working on a dry rubber bushing, same type system on the Goldwings, there was a special synthetic grease that went on mine and we were good for a ton of miles after that.

Also these rubber drive parts do crack and break apart after about 10,000 miles.

Where can I get a replacement rear shock for my 2003 Yamaha Venture

If you don't want to order the replacement from Yamaha http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/service/servicehome/home.aspx, you can do an internet search for either Works Performance or Ohlins, they both make superior rear shocks for the Royal Star.

I have a 2000 Yamaha Royal Star Venture with 50k miles. The clutch seems to begin to slip under heavy acceleration. What to do?

join delphi forums, they have many many tips for concerns, search for a royal star forum in there.....GREAT PEOPLE, i belong to the vstar rider one.
but look into replacing the weak clutch springs with heavy duty barnett springs, probably just weak.....
oil changes are with motorcycle wet clutch oil? auto engine oil has additives that will cause slippage .
good luck

You might consider contacting Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA - customer relations (800) 962-7926, press "1" for Star Specialist. See if they would consider either exchanging the bike, or sending a factory specialist out to examine your ride.

08 yamaha royal star venture: gas mileage dropped over last month

I have a 2007 Royal Star and it gets around 35 mpg. When it had the break-in oil, it did do a little better but when I changed it the first time, it went down to about 35 and has stayed there for 20+ miles. This may be a dumb question, but are you hanging the throttle open to raise the idle instead of using it as a choke? This is not really a solution response. Gotta check something.
