Question about 2008 KTM 530 EXC-R

Havent ridden or started my 08 ktm 530 for 11mths what do i need to do before i ride it?

Check the fluids, drain all of the fuel and replace, change the oil and filter, and I would clean and re-oil the air filter. Start it, and hope that the fuel hasn't started to go bad.
Also, check tire pressure.

If it won't idle or run like it did. Clean carb. You may have developed shalac. Always run the bike dry of gas in the carb. Shut gas off let run till bowl is empty. Fresh gas, open fuel line, starter right up.

Cooling system

The KTM sx is a full race bike - the radiators do not have fans to keep the bike cool when not moving - the bike must be moving to keep the air passing through the radiators to keep the engine cool - if you have the bike standing still there is no air moving through the radiator - hence why it over heats - tip start the bike after you are fully kitted up for your ride - let it warm up for around a min tops then ride - if you have to stop for a period of time when riding turn the bike off - I have the same issues of over heating if not moving on my VOR 530 - I do as described above and have no issues at all with over heating when riding. good luck

Will not shift into first gear

Sounds like your clutch is out of adjustment, or needs to be bled. Most of the ktm's use a Magura hydraulic clutch which can be bled using Mineral Oil. DO NOT USE BRAKE FLUID.

Everybody who owns a ktm 530 excr 08/09 know they have an oil burning issue, i've read on variuos forums that ktm have an upgrade kit to solve the problem, is this kit available or should i go for an...

easiest fix is to run a non synthetic oil to help the rings sea,l wont seal for about 20 hours of ride time, about two oil changes. The rings and cylinders were hardened for long gevity.

Have a 08 250sxf and it uses oil when ridden. i dont know where the leak is cos it only happens when ridden and i end up with oil all over the chain rear tyre and engine. i noticed once oil coming out of...

Assuming that the bike is otherwise running good and has no compression issues, it sounds like you mak have a clogged crankcase vent. If this hose gets pinched or clogged with mud, the crankcase will build up pressure and start forcing oil out whatever spot it can. If this isn't the issue, you will need to get a compression or leak down test.

have you checked your main fuse is the battery fully charged is there spark at the plug are you sure you havent bumped the kill switch without noticeing it

Ktm 530 /08 model has 88-100 miles on it i cant keep it running,wont start wont kick ,some times i can kick and then use electric start, if i turn it off battery seem dead, 3rd battery ,dealer is scra

This is obviously a problem in design of the bike. Weak circuit board design creating a shallow spark or mis-timed spark, OHC timing far too radical, carb design not compatible with the bore of the bike, factory valve angles out of whack, something, or several somethings have converged in this bike. Starter gear

but the last ride the starter was making noises. Took it back to the dealer and he said the starter gear was broken. I had purchased it exactly 30 days prior and it has a 30 warranty so no cost to me however it this a problem anyone has had and should I be worried?,Yep, My 05 exc525 had the same problem after about 200miles, one of the starter gear teeth broke off , luckily it was caught by the sump plug and ktm replaced the gear for me. Reasons could be slightly higher compression or smaller battery doesnt have the same power but i suspect its down to a batch of the gear cogs not being properly heat treated. As long as the broken teeth went straight to your magnetic oildrain bolt i dont think you need to worry. A couple of my mates also had replacement clutches after about 100 miles on the 525s, my decals are lifting and the rear tail light connector is a bit iffy, also the single red button for the starter and no kill switch with it is naff. Having aired those few glitches, its actually the best bike ive ridden to date with the upgraded chassis and suspension, and the fork seals are spot on. I just hope that ktm dont lose the attention to detail that we all like now they are in demand.,,,
