If you have the 5.2 V8 its located in the rear of the engine near the dist cap area you can see it if you look in that area , if 4.0 6 cyl its located on the side of the engine block near the oil filter area. It has two wires going to it and screws into the block. It's made mainly of plastic and if broken can allow oil under pressure to spew out and give you thoughts of a blown rear main seal due to the amount of oil all over the underside.

I have 2001 jeep grand cherokee 6cyl need

On the top of the bellhousing. From the drivers point of view it is in the 11:00 o'clock position. The harness wraps around the back of the bellhousing and plugs in on the passenger side of the block near the oil sending unit.

2001 Jeep Oil Pressure

Last week my 2001 Grand Cherokee with a 4.7 was dropping below 10 and my "check gauges" light and chime came on. My sending unit was bad. I could see it was bad because oil was getting through the unit and leaking very slow. It's located above the oil filter. Easy fix, but the unit was over $50 and the 1 1/16 special deep socket for sending units was over $10.

Someone comments say...

- On my 95 4.0 it's right beside the distributor.
- The sensor is on the passenger side of the engine, back near the firewall.

Good luck!!

I have a 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee (4 L) with 225,000 miles. When idling and engine hot, oil pressure guage drops to zero. Any way to tell if it is the pressure sensing unit or not?

ook up a external pressure guage where the sending unit is you will know forsure. with the milage i would guess that the oil pump may be the prblem or to much clearance in yhe bearing.

Low oil pressure

the first i would do is to see if the oil sending unit is ok and if you gage is working right and if they are then checkout the oil pump.
