Sounds like it's time for a new starter then do a flush on your oil system and get a new filter in it and good quality oil then see what happens and keep close eye on oil / you may have coolant getting in the block ( head gasket or cracked block ) a garage can test that .possibly a weak oil pump .take plugs out and spin it fast and see if coolant comes out sparkplug holes if there is it all has to get ripped apart
dont give up get the top end checked out .before it becomes major .

Tapping noise - oil pump?

Its possible the oil pump is going bad, but I doubt it would make the noise you describe.
Usually a tapping noise is a valve lifter or a piston connecting rod.
And low oil pressure could cause either, as well as dirt blocking one of the oil passages in the engine block.

TURN THE KEY TO START THE ENGINE AND ALL I GET IS A WHIRRING NOISE, THE ENGINE DOES NOT TURN OVER, TEMPERATURE FOR THE LAST 2 WEEKS HAS BEEN BELOW -25 C. STARTED 2 WEEKS AFTER WASHING THE VAN COULD THIS...

Very possible. It would seem that the starter is not fully engaging, perhaps due to ice buildup. If possible, park the car in a heated garage for a few hours to thaw it out, otherwise, you will need to remove and clean, or outright replace the starter.

I have a sony cibershot camera for over a year now, it has always worked nicely, up until a month ago, it suddenly wont turn on anymore. I,ve already charged and re-charged the battery but nothing...

make sure the batt is charging and working fine.check also the batt contacts.make sure its clean.insert batt to your camera.instead of pressing the power button, press the play button instead to power camera on. if unit turns on,might actually be an issue w/the camera unable to power on in camera mode.if it turns on initialize cam (p.75 of the manual).see if it works.if still wont turn on try using a diff batt (or if you have an optional ac adapter model#acls5k use it, attempt to power on cam to isolate issue w/power source).if batt or ac adaptor not available try to check batt with another cam if possible to test batt. if still unit doesnt turn on using a fully charged, diff batt, or using an ac adaptor, unit would reuire service. hope this info helps.thanks:)

I have a 2003 yahama viper er. i rode yesterday rode goood. now today it wouldnt turn motor? finally got motor unstuck and started it sounded really bad and white smoke was coming out of the exhuast. shut...

Your discription sounds like the engine has a seized piston or two or three. Pull the head and look and feel inside each cylinder. The cylinder walls should be super smooth and have no scratches. If a wall is scored up then a seizure has happened. Seizures are due to excessive heat. A lack of two stroke engine oil in the gas is possible as well as a bad water pump. NGK BR9ES is the stock spark plug.

Car just stopped...no check engine light, no oil light, no warning at all it just stopped. i heard a squealing noise, but i didnt hear any lifter tapping or piston slap or any type of knocking, its buggin...

If the motor is hydro locked then it has a coolant leak in the cylinder head or intake. The gm 3.1 and 3.4 are very well known for issue. If the batt is fully charged and the engine will not turn over that probably what it is. It can be a very costly repair so first check the oil if it looks like a milk shake or has white streaks in the oil then sorry but motor done and not worth fixing it.

Oil light came on and there was a moaning tapping noise....... then the check engine light came on... then there was only a slight tapping sound... i added a qt of oil and tried to drive the car home and...

Was the oil low before you added any? What computer check? You went to a shop to have it scanned? Have the code issues repaired first then move on to the noise issues. Not a very new car I hope your not the original owner because you should not have these problems if you maintained it over the years and don't have 250,000 miles on it. If that's the case get rid of it

TAPPING IN VALVES

ENGINE CLICKING NOISES
A clicking or tapping noise that gets louder when you rev the engine is probably "tappet" or upper valvetrain noise caused by one of several things: low oil pressure, excessive valve lash, or worn or damaged parts.
First, check the engine dipstick to see if the oil level is low. If low, add oil to bring it back up to the full mark. Is the engine still noisy? Check your oil pressure. A low gauge reading (or oil warning light) would indicate a serious internal engine problem that is preventing normal oil pressure from reaching the upper valvetrain components. The cause might be a worn or damaged oil pump, a clogged oil pump pickup screen or a plugged up oil filter. Using too thick a viscosity of motor oil during cold weather can also slow down the flow of oil to the upper valvetrain, causing noise and wear.
COLLAPSED LIFTER NOISE
Worn, leaky or dirty lifters can also cause valvetrain noise. If oil delivery is restricted to the lifters (plugged oil galley or low oil pressure), the lifters won't "pump up" to take up the normal slack in the valvetrain. A "collapsed" lifter will then allow excessive valve lash and noise.
VALVE LASH NOISE
If you can rule out lubrication-related problems as a cause, the next step would be to remove the valve cover(s) and check valve lash. On older import engines, mechanical lifters require periodic valve lash adjustments (typically every 30,000 miles). Too much space between the tips of the rocker arms and valve stems can make the valvetrain noisy -- and possibly cause accelerated wear of both parts.
To measure (and adjust) valve lash, you need a feeler gauge. The gauge is slid between the tip of the valve stem and rocker arm (or the cam follower or the cam itself on overhead cam engines) when the piston is at top dead center (valve fully closed). Refer to a manual for the specified lash and adjustment procedure. Also, note whether the lash spec is for a hot or cold engine (this makes a big difference!).
On engines with hydraulic lifters, oil pressure pumps up the lifters when the engine is running to maintain zero lash in the valvetrain. This results in quiet operation. So if the rocker arms are clattering, it tells you something is amiss (bad lifter or worn or damaged parts) or the rocker arms need adjusting.

Let me know if you have any other questions.  Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!

It could be you are low on oil;using the wrong oil;a possible loose connecting rod,or,maybe a bad or stuck lifter.
