If it does run i would think it was the kill switch issue or ignition switch, or something to do with the side stand and "in gear" switches. do you have a multi meter to check the circuits?

There is no response from the starter button but the bike turns over and fires when I short out the starter relay. How do I know if the starter relay or the ecm relay needs replacement?

ok on the starter relay you have two thick wires one from the battery and the other to the starter motor, then you will have one or two smaller wires one is from the start button this can be either live or neutral all depending how its wired up but its usually live to the button the other small wire will be earth.usually the live one is yellow/red and the earth is green .so get. a small piece of wire and connect it to the live battery terminal and poke it in the yellow connector and see if the engine turns over if it does then you have to check the yellow wire to see if it has a live feed from the start button when you press it ,it could also be the earth wire has no earth so poke.an earth into that one if it does have. live feed to the yellow wire from the start button when its pressed.also make sure your pulling the rear brake in or clutch in before you start it or do any checks.

My kinroad xt125gy wont start on electric start

providing the battery is fully charged and in good condition the starter motor should operate if you pull in either of the brakes with the side stand up a press the start button if it doesnt then its either
both stop switches are faulty
a faulty start button
a faulty starter relay
a faulty starter motor
a bad connection on the battery terminals
a bad connection on the starter motor
the starter relay is usually under the right hand seat panel there are two smaller wires on it one green (earth)
and one yellow/red wire live trigger feed from the start button the other two larger red live wires are
one from the live terminal of the battery
the other to the starter motor
so you cannot find the starter relay follow the live wire from the battery and you will find it.

My cbr 954 rr headlight both high beam and low beam & high beam blue indicator light does not work ! no headlight at all ! taillights blinkers and gauge lights are good! is this just the fuse?

Yes - and there is a fuse for just those items. The other possible cause is a bad starter button. When you push the start button, it does two things: activates the electric starter - and cuts power to the headlight until the button is released. So, if it isn't the fuse, it's probably the start button.

1992 eurovan won't start, all electrical works but starter will not engage. battery seems fine. there is a slight clicking in the dash that starts when you turn the key and stops after about 15 seconds,...

check your fuses first for a blown fuse.
check the very thick cable that runs from the battery positive to the starter motor to make sure it isnt heavily corroded either at the batter or starter end. corrosion will have to be quite bad and therefore obvious if sufficient to cause a problem. also check the fixings are tight on either end. perform the same checks for the thick cbale from the negative battery terminal . this will either run directly to the engine/gearbox housing or to to the chassis/vehicle from which it will connect to the engine via another cable. all of this needs to be tight and corrosion free.
if so, then you will find a much thinner cable that runs to the starter motor solenoid (which is part of the starter motor assembly). this small cable will be very close to the thick one. check that this cable has a live feed while an assistant tries to engage the starter motor with the key. you will need a test lamp or voltmeter to do this.
if there is a live feed from this thin cable, and you are definately happy that the battery and the heavy cables are good, then the fault has too lie with the starter motor.
if there is not live feed at the small wire then this will be down to either a faulty ignition switch, a blown fuse, if fitted, a relay or a wiring fault.
does the clicking noise you hear ONLY occour while the key is turned to engage the starter motor? if so this could be the problem, otherwise I would think it is irrelevant to the problem.
You can test the ignition switch by removing the cowling around the ignition barrel. There is usualy 4 wires. one will be a pernament live feed into the switch. one will become live when the key is turned to the first stage ( for things like the radio). the next will only become live with the ignition on. The most important one here will be the one that becomes live while engaging the starter. if there is no live going out, but there is a live into the switch then it will obviously be the switch thats faulty.
failing that, it comes down to tracing the point where the live feed breaks down.
I'm not sure if there is a relay in this circuit, I would not have thought so, may worth trying to find out, perhaps by trying to get hold of a wiring diagram (manufacturers website?).

My 1992 pickup won't start, even though battery is OK. Someone suggested hitting the starter with hammer gently. Does this make sense and where is the starter. Thanks

The starter is down on the right side of the engine, just follow baterry positive wire to it.Check all wires are clean at the starter.Check for a live feed to the small wire at the starter with some one holding the key in the start possition,If your getting a live feed then you have a problem with the starter motor change it,If you are not getting a live feed to the small wire when the key is turned then your problem is from the ignition switch to starter .

1989 volvo 740 gl. Put new starter in, now it

i cannot remember but i think there is a starter relay, its located in the engine bay the wire color is the same as its is on the starter motor, and feeds back to the relay, in the relay box in engine bay if this model dont have the relay as some models did not have it fitted and it was a straight from the ignition it can cross over on the ignition switch, and that would need to be replaced, or changed to button press, were by cutting the wire on the starter wire on the ignition and feeding it to a switch button.

Starter problem

I think there are two possible causes here:-

1.(Easy) your starter-button is permanently contacting, split the right-hand switchgear on the bars to check and clean.

2. (Git) The starter circuit relay(Not the starter-relay) in the junction box is knackered causing the circuit to be live as soon as ignition is switched on.
This will be located under the seat or behind a side panel. The whole assembly will have to be replaced probably.

Hope it's the button.

1996 nissan 200sx with a new battery and starter but when key is turned there is nothing no click no rotation what so ever the clutch is depressed lights come on with full intensity but the car wont turn...

check the wires on the starter motor, there's a small one that sometimes gets dirty and loses contact or may even be off altogether, this supplies the feed to starter to tell it to turn over, or try running a live wire from the battery straight to this small terminal on starter motor body..CAUTION, make sure you are in neutral gear with handbrake applied, turn ignition on so lights on dash are lit up, then a quick touch of this "live" wire should make engine turn over or start,if so the problem is the small wire has no live feed or needs cleaning.
hope this helps.
