To change the transmission you will have to disconnect the battery then remove the outer primary cover, starter, clutch, primary chain tensioner, stator, (clutch, stator and primary chain come out as a set) inner primary cover, exhaust, clutch cable and then transmission. Sounds like a big job but if you are mechanically inclined, have the tools and have a weekend to yourself it is reasonably easy.

Where are the oil plug and transmission plug on 2006 fxstdi softail deuce

The engine oil plug is on the bottom of the right rear side of the frame, near the swingarm. It has a hose on top that goes to a connection at the frame. There is a bolt at the bottom that you remove to drain the oil. The trans drain plug is at the bottom of the trans housing, between the rear shock absorbers.

How do i remove the tail light of a 2003 Harley davidson Deuce so that I can change the globe. Thanks Craig

Hi Crmajor, on late model Dyna/Softail tail light lens removal you need to insert a screw in the middle hole of the licence plate bracket push into retaining spring clip untill it releases, lift/rotate lens in an upward manner and remove. Good luck and have nice day.

Hi,I have a 2003 deuce done 11000 mls, rode it today felt asthough the clutch cable broke (no clutch) ,after further inspection clutch cable seams to be alright connected both ends, haven't pulled side...

Well, you only need the clutch to release, and that cannot be major. Inspect the cable completely, does it move at the trans end when you pulll it. What is inside is essentially a fork on a release bearing, a rod, and the clutch spring plate.

Do I need to remove the rear tire on my 2003 harley davidson softail deuce to replace the brakes?

You do not have to remove the wheel according to the manual, but if you wish to remove the caliper you will need to remove the wheel....There are no caliper mounting bolts on the Deuce, the caliper is mounted through the rear axle. TO change the brake pages loosing the pad retaining bolts (2) then push the caliper gently towards the rotor and then pull it gently away from the rotor. This will free up enough space to get the new pads in. Remove the pad retention bolts and replace pads and tighten everything down.

Trans oil change

Run the bike until it's at operating temp. Locate the drain plug. On the oil pan right under the transmission. remove the plug using a 1/4 allen. Fully drain. replace plug ( I suggest applying Teflon tape on the threads to make sure you won't leak ) then put in 23 ounces. runn the bike back up to operating temperature, then check level with bike upright and level.
