I have a honda xr8x scooter which is standard but has been de-restricted but is still very slow. 36 on the clock but really about 32mph. it runs sweet but just very slow. any ideas
Here are a few things to check:
The air filter. If it is dirty, replace with a new one. Also make sure nothing is obstructing the inlet to the air filter.
Valve tappet clearances. Over time, the tappet clearance will diminish and affect performance.
The drive belt and pullys. Make sure there's no contamination on the belt or pullys that could cause slippage (oil, grease, anitifreeze, etc.). Also check that the pully faces move correctly with engine RPM and road speed. If one of the moveable faces is stuck, this will negatively affect the engine RMP to road speed.
Finally, if it has ever sat for a long period of time (a year more more) consider having the carburetor cleaned out.
