Question about 2003 Suzuki RM 250

2 Answers

Just bought a 1983 rm 250 starts and seems to run fine it has a HUGE exhaust leak right at the manifold, seems really weak compression on the kick , measured it at 60 psi closed throttle went up to 75 psi on full throttle and 100 psi with a wet test, what would you recomend to do??? send it out and have the whole unit inspected or simply replace the rings?

you know whats funny is that the thing sounds better except it has that huge exhaust leak then my uncles 73 250 ts. I don't hear any knocking sounds but the bike shop said it would cost around 300 to have them do the piston kit so i think ill just go that route thanks for your input

U need to hone the cylinder and replace the rings and possibly the piston, check for any scoring of the cylinder wall as well, if u find any deep score marks try honing them, don't remove more than a few thousands of material use a stone type hone and wet stones often while you do the job with cleaning solvent, use a occilating up and down motion to hone the cylinder, after that you will need to have the cylinder bored and an over-sized piston put in, also check the valve seal by pouring cleaning solvent in the cylinder head and see if it seeps threw, the leak will be on the exhaust valves, I recommend u at least seat the valves into the seats with valve grinding compound just to assure that they are sealing..

Hi there,

Well i don't think that that the problem is only related to the Rings, it need a deep inspection so better you send it out and have the whole inspected....
Please tell me is there any knocking sound, comes from the engine?

Thanks

My 2015 suzuki rmz250 has really weak spark and won't start by kicking, only pull starting it will light it off.

Hi, Parker there is no such thing as a "WEAK SPARK" even though dozens of riders will swear that's what they have and are dying to show you, the bottom line is either you have spark or don't have spark there is nothing in between.
You won't see a dirtbike spark really well, and people only look at it when they have a problem. It is designed to fire under extreme pressure (13:1 compression) and is very robust, but it is not a 1mm bright blue line jumping across a spark plug. It can be white and very hard to see. If you are confident you have weak or no spark prove it by holding the plug in your hand and stark kicking you will be in for a "SHOCKING" surprise!!!!!
60% of these bikes have a flooding issue and/or a fouled plug. 30% need valves adjusted and most of the remaining 10% are something simple in the electrics like a broken kill switch, bad earth on the battery or dead battery, wiring at the steering head damaged or blown fuse.

Suzuki 1998 rm 250

The RM250W has a compression release, but I don't think the RM250 does.
If you have one, is it hooked up?

Also, isn't stock with a FLAT top piston?

1983 f150 with 351 windsor. Recent problem of bogging down when climbing moderate hills. Also sounds of ticking noise, lifters or manifolds leak? Any help much appreciated.

A leaking exhaust manifold could make a ticking noise. So could a lifter or valve. The exhaust noise would be louder under load.
If the carb is running too lean, or you have a vac leak, the lean fuel mixture could make the exhaust leak worse, and cause the loss of power.

Rm 250 wont start off kick

Don't know if it is water cooled or not, but it sounds like you may have a problem with oil or water getting into the combustion chamber and fouling the spark plugs. Kicking doesn't produce the amount of rpm that you need to fire up a weakly firing plug. I'd check the plugs condition first and replace if needed, and then figure out why its smoking.

I'm having trouble starting my 1985 rm 250 and I

It means that unburned fuel collected in the exhaust pipe then ignited when the spark plug fired due to the rotation of the crankshaft. It also means the spark plug is firing and the cylinder is getting gas... too much gas. The engine is flooding out due to much choking of the carb during kick starting.

Hi ive got a 2003 rm 250 ive just changed the crank shaft seal and the bike is still smoking but not as bad cud i have oil in my packing in my back box of my exhaust or have i another problem? And the bike...

I would suggest doing a compression check and checking the results against your manual (should be at least 165PSI or so. Low compression will make the bike run rich which would make it smoke excessively. It would also make it hard to start and run poorly with low power. New rings could do wonders.

Wr250f 2001.riding bike reved and stopped wont kik properly

if this is a two stroke, then if you have run it out of fuel, there is no lubrication for the piston and you may have damaged the piston or piston rings, check the compression, esay test is remove sprk plug pit your finger hard into the hole and crank the bike over,if your finger gets pushed off with loud crack sound then compression should be ok,but if it doesnt and the preesure is very weak then you will be looking at a top end rebuild, hope this helps

Carb or manifold or exhaust problem hellllppppppppp

You have an air leak on the intake side of the motor. Get new carb and carb manifold gaskets. Tighten the bolts down evenly in three stages. For the exhaust, try the link below. It is a high temp silicone sealer.
