Want to replace air box filter. Also have a

I have two 1990 K1's and want to replace air box filter. Also have a throttle body sticking keeping the RPM from dropping when the throttle is reduced in speed.

    I am having trouble getting to the filter without taking the bike down. This is routine replacement item it can't be that difficult to get too what am I missing.

    On my blue K1 I have 126K on it and the Red K1 has only 51K. The red one is having the sticky problem, the ble never has had that trouble. Thanks, I'll check that out.

The sticking problem is usually a fairly inexpensive fix, the cable is beginning to fray, change the throttlecable. as for the air filter housing? k&n makes awesome filters for most bikes!!! good luck, hope this helps!

Change the sir-filter and fuel-filter. Also clean out the air-filter box the filter sits in. If the problem persists, remove the air-intake duct that goes to the throttle body for obstructions. Also look at the air-horn and throttle-plate. Is there carbon in the air-horn and throttle-plate? If so, carefully clean the airhorn and throttle-plate with a clean, dust-free rag sprayed with automotive solvent.

If you still have the pronlem, you might consider the engine temperature-senser.

My 1990 dodge ram d150 idle wont drop below 1800 most of the time it staysat 2000, it will drop to @750 some times . Its a 5.2 with a 4 spd . any idea what it may be


I would check the idle air control valve. Also check for a sticking throttle cable or throttle plate in the throttle body.

Clean your Throttle body with throttle body cleaner or Deep Creep made by Seafoam. When the carbon and varnish build up in your throttle body get's hot, it gums up the IAC (Idle air control) valve which help moderate your engine's rpm to keep it from stalling.
If the IAC is stuck due to the gum of the carbon and varnish in your throttle body, you have stalling issues which you have described. Start with that and replace your air cleaner filter since your going to clean your throttle body.

check or clean out throttle body at throttle plate it may have carbon build up on it. also make sure air filter is clean and check or replace the intake air tempurature sensor.(iat) sensor. the sensor is under 20.00, the sensor is after air filter in the big hose to throttle body.

Replace engine air filter


Hi pastore -

Changing an air filter is generally an easy task to perform. Pop your hood and look for the air intake tube. This tube (sometimes more of a labrynth) runs from your throttle body to the "air-box". You can locate the throttle body by having an assistant push and release the gas pedal (while car is off) while you look for moving parts under the hood. The mechanism that moves when the pedal is depressed is the throttle body. Now trace the intake tube (large tube/hose) from the throttle body down to the air-box. The air filter will be located within the air-box. The box usually has a series of clamps that hold a cover in place. Release all of the clamps and lift open the cover to expose the air filter. The air filter should just be sitting in the air box - should be easily removed by lifting the filter element upwards. The new filter should simply drop in place of the old one. Reclamp the cover and you're good to go!.

Sounds like idle air control valve sticking. If i remember correctly, the idle air control valve is built into the throttle body. This is the part that connects between the air filter and inlet manifold. take this off and clean thoroughly with carb cleaner. if this does not work, then renew part.
