If you are getting fuel in the oil it can only be coming from one place. The float needle valve in the carburator is sticking open causing fuel to flow from the carburator into the combustion chamber, past the rings and into the oil. The only fix is to remove the carburator, remove the float bowl and the float. Remove the needle valve and clean the needle seat. Inspect the needle valve tip to see of it is damaged in any way. Remember while you are inspecting the needle seat that the smallest of particles can cause your problem.

Two things cause gas in oil problems on this fuel injected bike:

Overfilling the gas tank will cause gas to overflow the evaporative canister and spill into the crankcase.

Poor design of the cooling system as regards the placement of the radiator and fuel tank can cause the gasoline to overboil into the evaporative system and spill into the crankcase.

Either situation can lead to oil pump failure and total engine loss.

Check with Aprilia customer service for technical bullitens regarding the re-routing of the evaporative lines and new thermostat specifications to help minimise the likelyhood of this happening.

SOURCE: Gas in oil

Does your bike have a fuel shut off or a vacuum pump? It sounds like the carb, throttle is leaking fuel with the bike off and it is running into the oil. Could be an explosive situation.Check out the fuel pump, make sure it is not running, or the shut off, make sure it is shutting off. Hope this helps.

I just replaced the battery in my 2004 aprilia atlantic 500 now it doesn't start. everything seems good but it acts like it isn't getting any gas.

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel tank empty.
2. Fuel supply valve/petcock turned off.
3. Fouled spark plugs.
4. Engine flooded as a result of overuse of the enricher.
5. Vacuum hose to the fuel supply valve/petcock disconnected, broken, cracked, or pinched.
6. Fuel valve/petcock or filter clogged.
7. Fuel line to the carburetor or throttle body pinched or kinked.
8. Carburetor float stuck.
9. Fuel injectors clogged.
10. Severely discharged or damaged battery you need 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
11. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
12. Loose or corroded wire connection at the coil, battery or plug between ignition sensor and CDI box.
Spark plug cables in bad condition and shorting check for leakage in the dark, cable connections loose, or connected to the wrong cylinders.
13. Ignition timing incorrect due to a faulty MAP, CKP, O2, TPS, sensors.
14. Faulty neutral, clutch lever, or kickstand safety switch.
15. Faulty fuel pump or fuse or relay.
16. Faulty CDI box.
17. A stuck bent or burnt valve.

Just bought a 2004 aprilla atlantic. bike has not been started in 2 years. replaced battery, it turns over but does not start. - any suggestions?

Hi, Anonymous if your bike has been idle for months or years and does not want to start you will have to deal with a few remedies:
1. Drain and flush fuel tank, google " how to clean a motorcycle gas tank" find a couple forums to view the different options available.
2. Remove your air cleaner and clean and re-oil per Mfg. specifications.
3. Remove the carburetor, disassemble and decontaminate with a carb dip or if you have EFI remove injectors and clean with carb spray and compressed air
4. Remove fuel valve and filter disassemble and clean as necessary, remove fuel lines and replace with new ones.
5. Replace spark plug with a new one and check for spark.

Fitting exhaust for Atlantic 500

2001 (I think it uses the Vespa ET-4 engine). Are there any other exhausts besides the Aprilia one that would fit without welding etc? Also what gasket do I have to get with it? Any online shops you can recommend for the parts? Just want to take the lot to the dealer and have them fit it - but the official parts are way too pricy. Please help! ,There's a Sito Plus ET4 exhaust that fits the atlantic costs around $170. I purchased mine but haven't put it on yet (I bought it during a winter sale), so I'm not sure about gaskets. From other scooter posts I've read, a lot of ET4 owners replaced their stock pipes w/ it. I bought mine from Scooterworks.com... Anything would look better than the dull black pipe the atlantic comes with,,,
