Question about 1982 Yamaha XS 400
Have a new speedometer for my yamaha 82 maxim 400 that i need to install - and remove the broken speedometer (needle is broken inside, and it doesn't gauge the speed, just goes around in circles) i have the repair manual for the bike but it doesn't have any information on the speedo

SOURCE: Speedometer problem
Speed sensor is what it sounds like. Could be as easy as taking it out and cleaning it off. Could be a bad sensor itself or could be the worst thing and it be in the cluster. At least that will get you started that happens all the time on the Harleys and most of the time its something to do with the sensor.,,

the connection on your front wheel where the speedo cable connects the link between the cable and gear more than likely broke you will need new speedo cable it happened to my cruiser

Change oil and, filters regularly; lube the throttle cables and, all moving parts drain the fuel tank and, replace the fuel filter every year, or; when needed. never leave fuel in the bike when you store it without using "stabil" only check your ignition with a timing light get a maintenance schedule from the bike's manufacturer and, follow it.
