Have trouble selecting gears on 650 bandit gsf mainly from 3rd to 6 gear changing up, not as bad changing down gears don't go into gear straight away if I change quickly helps somtimes

Hi, Clive and the usual suspects are:
1. Clutch dragging slightly.
2. Primary chaincase overfilled with lubricant.
3. Corners wore off shifter clutch dogs.
4. Shifter return spring bent or broken.
5. Bent shifter rod.
6. A loose shift lever on shifter shaft.
7. Shifter forks sprung.
8. Shifter pawl needs adjusting.
9. Heel/toe shifter coming in contact with the floorboard.
10. Transmission oil too heavy.

My gear select shaft on my gsf1200 Suzuki bandit has pushed in too far to get the circling back on and I can't select gears

yes a bit of a job
a repair manual would help a lot
this is what you cant see
the shaft goes to the other side of the bike
you should be able to undo exterior engine covers
and sort out the shift shaft problem

how much free play you got on the clutch lever ? 3mm max !! or do you mean it just wont select at all what ever ? mite have bent the selecter fork ! remove clutch cover while the bike is leaning over on opposite side so oil stays in ! look and operate gear lever !

Hi, Gary you may need to overhaul your transmission shifting forks and or drum for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. If necessary, transport your bike to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your issue. How do I get the gears to work again on my Schwinn Mesa GSX Mountain Bike?

The shift cable is likely too loose, but there are multiple items to tighten, lubricate and adjust on just the derailleurs, let alone the rest of the bike, before it's safe and ready to ride. I would suggest you get some assistance from a more knowledgeable friend, a bike co-op or a bike shop.

Gear box goin in to gear but still like it is in nutural

If you select a gear without pulling clutch in it will grind and stall.
If you are certain the bike is engaging a gear and still seems it is in neutral, your clutch drive is broken.
Alternatively, the gear selecter fork bolts maybe loose behind the sidecover, allowing selector to partially engage only and return to neutral. Try selection thru' higher gears, place bike on a stand and turn back wheel in gear, if gears turn and motor doesn't...it is the clutch. If you cannot select a gear proper with rear wheel turning, your selecter is suspect.
Goodluck, and Cheers.

How do you change gears

To change the front gear (probably 3 selections) use the left lever. To change the rear cassette, use the right one. To shift smoothly, slow your pedalling to switch, and don't change gears when you are pedalling hard, especially up hill. Gears hate that :)

Instructions for using gears on 12 speed Mesa runner

Not familiar with the exact model of bike but normally you start riding in a low gear. As you wish to speed up or find it easy to push the pedals just change up in gear and keep pedaling and the gear chain will move to the next gear cog. The secret is to keep pedaling when you select a gear either up or down and the gear will change. Hope this is of benifit.
