Question about 2008 Suzuki GSX-R 600

1 Answer

I laid my bike over on the left side and the crankcase cover was scratched up so I got another one to replace. I replaced everything like it should and the last piece(Gear with cover, 3 bolts) that connect to the starter was hard to put in but I finally got it. I go to start my bike and it just clicks. Any suggestions to what I did wrong?

When you say rock it which way do I do that.

  • arbecker Nov 16, 2009

I tried doing that and that piece wont go on very easy at all. The gear that is already inside is that suppose to move freely or not. Cuz it is not.

U do not have that starter gear installed correctly, u need to remove the cover and recheck it, if u install it correctly it should just slip right on, rock the engine while you install it, this engages it correctly.

I have a 2005 LT80 that is making a whining sound consistent with the velocity of the transmission and seems to be getting worse. Any ideas?

there are 2 possibilities

Yes, you need to change the rear gear oil.
Back of the bike where axle runs through left crankcase. There is a small 10mm bolt on the bottom.
Take that out and the gear oil will drain. This is the drain bolt.
When empty replace the drain bolt and remove the fill bolt/cap 10mm on the side of the left crankcase. Should be approx 2 inches above the drain bolt. It will be marked right on the case.
Fill it up with gear oil until it runs out the hole your putting it into.
Screw the cap/bolt back in and your good to go.

Yes, your drive belt is breaking, tearing. Located on the left side of engine under clutch cover.

Starter is spinning but bike is not starting. sounds like it may be slipping.

The one way clutch in the motor grabs a gear with a smooth cylinder sticking out of the side of it. The smooth surface of the gear is now chattered and the one way clutch will not grab it. You will have to replace the large gear and possibly the one way clutch. The one way clutch should be located under the left crankcase cover bolted to the to the flywheel . The starter gear that probably is most of the problem is inserted into the starter clutch between the flywheel and the crankshaft/crankcase. You will have to pull the flywheel to do a proper inspection.

According to the suzuki guys, there is no "D" code, it is a speedo error, and the problem lies within the damaged left side. It says that the speed sensor is in there, along with a couple other things. I would pull the cover off again and look for the slightest damage to wires there, and then follow them. Hope this helps.

Cracked frame

Suzuki replaced my frame about a 1.5 years ago.I was 3rd owner,9000 miles on bike, all stock and original except pipes. The only drawback was I had to pay for the labor, which was about a $1100. I knew the mechanic at the shop and they let me do the labor myself. The frame was cracked on both sides where the radiator mount screw into the frame.
