From personal experience and 20+ years working with bikes, cars, trucks, etc., it really is better to let a professional do this. For someone who is experienced and certified it will pose not much of a problem...for the "shade tree" mechanic, this job can quickly turn into a cascading parts failure problem and result in months with the bike recommendation to let a professional take care of this does not come lightly.

Take it to a shop and let a professional do it.

The link below has exploded views of the bike in segments. Parts are numbered and named on a list below diagram. Might be a slow process to go from one section of the bike to another, but it's all there. Might be an idea to take some pics on your mobile for reference next time.

Oil is leaking out of the shifter assenbly on my 2001 yamaha yx 125. there appears to be some type of seal there. how do i change it?

Most often, the shifter shaft seal is on the inside of the left-side engine/transmission cover. Check this with your repair manual. If so, you would need to remove the shifter assembly from the shifter shaft and then remove all the machine screws that hold the cover on and remove the cover (sliding it off the shifter shaft). If this is the case, you will also need a replacement cover gasket in addition to the shift shaft seal and it will be much less messy if you drain the engine oil first. Also, take care in re-installing the new seal and wrap the knurled end of the shifter shaft with tape prior to sliding the cover back on so it doesn't damage the new seal.

1997 yamah yz 125 lots of white smoke comeing out of pipe

How much was it smoking previously? Too much smoke (oil) is a whole lot better than not enough smoke (oil). If you are mixing the oil and gas then cut back on the mixture. Obviously it is out of balance. Put 1/2 gallon of raw gas in the tank to cut the mix. After a tank or so you should get the balance back.

You need a new shift shaft and probably need a new shift lever due to the bad splines. You can try the JB Weld but I suggest that you go ahead and drill the lever an shaft then put in a cold roll split pin from the hardware store. You have nothing to loose since the shaft and the lever are already toast.

Please rate this solution. Thanks!

Changing the tire on a yz 125

If the best you have is large screwdrivers to pry the tire onto the rim then I think you might want to let the shop do it. It is not the easiest thing to do.
