Question about 2005 Suzuki Boulevard C50

Can i straighten the front forks up if I loosen the nut on the headstock, move the fork legs, and retighten the nut again? the bike is a VL800 k5.

Loosen the front fender, the axle retaining bolts, plus the upper and lower headstock bolts and nuts so that the whole assembly is free to align. Tighten the fender last. If that doesn't restore wheel alignment, you may have bent tubes that need straightening or replacement. Was the bike in a front-end wreck?

Undoing the triple clamps will help with this,make sure forks are not bent , retighten ,get a alignment check done at a bike shop..

98 W/Glide forks out of alignment how do I straighten them?


Hi, Max if your front forks are only twisted and not bent they can be realigned, start by jacking the bike up so the front wheel is off the ground; a half-inch or so will do it.
If the forks have been removed from the bike:
1. Set the fork height in the upper clamp, and then tighten the pinch bolts in 3 equal stages to the proper torque. If you're not convinced that the heights are equal, slip the axle into place. If it doesn't glide smoothly through the forks, one leg is higher than the other, so readjust them until the axle slides through them with little or no effort.
2. Install the front fender but don't tighten the bolts.
3. Install the front wheel and axle. If the axle threads into the fork, thread it in loosely, if it uses a nut, just snug the nut down by hand. Do not tighten the axle pinch bolts.
4. Spin the wheel as fast as you can and abruptly pull on the brake lever. Holding the brake lever on, tighten the front axle.
5. Lower the bike onto the ground, and, while holding the front brake, gently pump the forks a few times. You did remember to tighten those upper pinch bolts, didn't you?
6. Tighten the lower clamp's pinch bolts in 3 equal stages, followed by the axle pinch bolts to the proper torque.
7. Tighten and torque the fender bolts.
If you suspect the forks are tweaked but don't want to go through the procedure above there is an easier way.
A. Support the weight of the bike on the jack or center stand, and loosen the front axle.
B. Remove the lock nut, and then try to slide the axle out of the fork. If it comes away with little effort, the forks are in alignment. If the axle has to be pounded out, it's a safe bet the forks are slightly tweaked or rusted.
C. To correct a slight misalignment, loosen everything but the top clamp pinch bolts (you don't have to remove anything), and start at Step #3. Anytime the wheel is removed, perform steps #4 and #5: that'll center the wheel in the fork and provide better suspension and braking action.
If your forks are aligned but your handlebars are twisted start by loosening the handlebar clamp bolts, then in a criss-cross pattern tighten the bolts in 3 equal stages to the proper torque. You will see that tightening a specific corner pulls the handle bar in a specific direction you can loosen and tighten the bolts on one clamp to achieve proper eyeball alignment, it may take a few attempts to get the desired results.

How do I refill my fork tubes with fork oil


Begin by loosening the upper triple-clamp pinch bolts and breaking the fork caps loose while the fork is still held by the lower triple clamp. You will need to remove the caps to refill the fork tubes with oil.
Determine if the fork legs have oil drain plugs near the bottom of the legs. If they do, you are in luck and will be able to change the oil without removing the fork legs. Put old newspapers on the floor under the front end. Place a drain pan under the fork legs and remove the drain plugs, one side at a time. Hold the front brake and push down on the fork several times to pump the oil out. When oil stops coming out, reinstall the plugs using new sealing washers.
Without Drain Plugs
If there are no drain plugs (look carefully), you'll need to remove the fork legs to drain the oil. At this point you can decide to have it done professionally or do the work yourself. We'll cover the main, basic steps. Refer to a shop manual to learn all the exact procedures involved. Some motorcycles may require fairings, handlebars, etc. to be removed.
Support the motorcycle either on the centerstand (if equipped) or by using a motorcycle jack under the engine. If you use the centerstand, you may need to place a sandbag on the rear of the seat, hold the front end up using straps from the rafters, or support the bike underneath the engine. Use tie-downs to steady the bike on the jack. Grasp the lower fork legs and try to push and pull the fork toward the back of the bike and forward to check for loose steering head bearings. Inspect the pleated rubber fork boots, if equipped. Check for signs of fork oil leakage and any grooves in the fork tube wear surfaces where the seals make contact. Also check for looseness between the fork legs and tubes that would indicate bushing wear.
Remove the front wheel and axle assembly. Support and tie the brake caliper(s) out of the way. Remove the front fender and speedometer cable, if equipped. With the fork leg fully extended, remove the top cap from a leg. Be prepared as there may be some spring pressure pushing against the cap.
Loosen and remove the pinch bolt from the lower triple clamp and lower the fork leg. Note any shims or washers and spring. Turn the leg upside down in a drain pan until oil stops flowing out. You may have to move the damping rod in and out to get the oil out. Repeat the procedure for the other side.
Reinstall the fork legs and other removed components in the reverse order of removal.
All Models
Add the exact amount and type of oil recommended by the manufacturer. Some motorcycles call for the use of a dipstick to determine how much oil to use instead of just pouring a certain amount of oil back in. Follow the manufacturer's shop manual recommendations.
Carefully install the threaded top caps by hand to avoid cross-threading. Tighten the pinch bolts and top caps to the factory-specified torques. After the brakes are installed, pump up the lever until the brakes feel normal again. Once the bike is assembled and on the floor, push down on the front end to verify the suspension's response. Turn the steering from its left to right limits to ensure nothing is binding, and check all controls including the throttle for proper operation.

How to get fork caps off 1993xr250r to change oil


Be careful with them they are under pressure from the springs make sure to lift the front off the ground, or remove forks from the bike. If the forms are upside down type when you open the top nut the outer leg should slide down allowing access to oil.

Front forks on a 1987 Honda Goldwing motorcycle how to change them


Place bike on center stand.
Jack the front of the bike to raise the front wheel off the ground. Be careful!!!
Remove the front wheel.
Remove the front fender and cross brace.
Disconnect the brake calipers from the forks.
Remove the air connections from the fork tops.
Loosen the fork leg clamp bolts on the triple tree.
Slide each leg out of the bike. Twisting while pulling often helps.
This can also be done without removing the front wheel but you will have to elevate the front of the bike another foot or so - just disconnect the air fittings and brake calipers, loosen the clamp bolts and drop the whole front assembly.

Replace front wheel


Hi Anonymous, start by jacking up the front end of the bike until the front wheel is about 6 inches off the ground. Have an assistant hold the handle bars and steady the bike during this procedure. Safely with wood block the frame and front wheel, let the jack down until all the weight is on the blocks. Remove calipers from fork leg brackets and let hang or use bungie cords to hold them out of the way, do not pull in brake lever while calipers are off. Remove axle nut and washers, loosen right fork slider axle cap nuts and with a long screw driver or drift take a mallet and bang out axle from left to right. Remove block under wheel then remove the wheel. Replace in reverse order, tighten slider cap nuts then axle nut to 50-55 ft lbs. Loosen slider cap nuts to allow right fork to find its center then retighten cap nuts to 15 ft lbs. of torque. Re-install calipers and torque bolts to 28-38 ft lbs. Jack up bike remove blocks, pump front brake lever and your good to go. Good luck

just measure your fork leg diameters and compare them to the yz ! you could also see if the yz fork clamp headstock bearings and steering tube will fit your bike !

Oily fluid leaking from front suspension forks. Both sides leaking how do i repair this.


Replace the Fork oil seals. It will require you to support the bike from the headstock and remove the forks. You will also need to know the correct amount of fork oil to put in each leg. Buy the manual for your bike (whatever it is) it will cost about 20GBP. a new set of forks will cost considerably more.

Handlebars not straight with front wheel


There is a long bolt (of which you can only see the head) in the center of the handlebar stem. The nut (which you can't see at all) at the bottom of this bolt is a wedge, that when it is tight keeps the stem tightly wedged inside the tube (that you also can't see) that is the top part of the front fork (which is the two long arms to which the front wheel is attached. Loosen this bolt just a couple of turns, then give it a sharp rap with a hammer or block of wood. This will loosen the wedge without removing the bolt. Make your straightening adjustment and retighten the bolt. Good luck.

I am unable to align the front forks and steering head of the bike. I loosen the four pinch bolts on the the fork legs and align the steering with the front wheel, but after re-tightening the bolts the...


What caused the mis alignment in the first place, if it was a crash , something may be bent.
It can help to loosen the axel bolts as well.
perhaps you may need to pull the forks out and turn the chrome stauntions to see if they are bent
Dont try to straighten forks, this can cause stress fractures

I crashed and need to straighten the steering. The front wheel is turning to the left. How do I re-align the handlebars and front wheel?


First, support the bike so that the front wheel is off the ground. Then, loosen (do not remove, just loosen them) the bolts that clamp the fork tubes into the upper and lower triple clamp braces. Loosen the front axle attachments to the fork legs. Now stand in front of the bike and hold the front wheel between your knees and turn the handlebars until they are straight - and re-tighten everything. Also, check the large nut on top of the steering stem, making sure it is tight.
