Question about 2003 Suzuki VL 800 Volusia

1 Answer

1992 Suzuki Intruder, starts and runs fine, but I seem to have blown all gauges, turn signals etc when re-wiring horn. So I have working head light and running lights, but no display, gauge lights, turn sinals or brake lights, BUT the bike runs normally other than that??

After working on my Suzuki 1400 intruder 1999 the turn signals work on the left side but not on the right, is it the bulbs blew or is there a fuse for this

Hi, Henry you should go back to the work you just and look for clues pinched wires etc.before diagnosing any turn signal/running light/parking light issue make sure the bulb is good and the light fuse has continuity with a test light. If you have replaced you OEM lights with LED lights you are going to need a load equalizer. If no turn signals work the cause could be a faulty turn signal module or the connector going to it, look for corroded, loose, or broken pins/sockets. Contact spray cleaner is great for removing corrosion. If your speedometer does not function properly it will have to be fixed first because your turn signal module gets the data from the speedometer for normal turn signal function. If your front turn signals don't work use a test light to check for power and ground at the bulb socket, then start backtracking the wiring through every wire connector to the turn signal switch/button and check for continuity, go all the way back to the fuse if necessary to find the cause of the malfunction. If your rear turn signals don't work check your rear fender wiring harness connector first for corroded, broken, loose pins/sockets, power, and a good ground, (the harness connector is usually located under the seat on the front of the rear fender) then keep tracing the wiring look for obvious harness damage caused by the rear tire. If you still can't find the malfunction backtrack from the rear fender wiring harness connector. If one side does not work you could have a faulty turn signal switch or module check for continuity. 2007 fatboy lost the 'flashing' of turn signals (but they still light up), lost horn, lost rear break light. All fuses in the fusebox are OK. I also lost all gauges (speedo, neutral indicator,...

Your turn signals (but not your running lights), horn and a few other things are on the "accessories" fuse in your electrical circuit, I think. If the fuse is not blown, I would guess that you have a bad connection in the power lead for that circuit. I'm not sure of what I'm going to say here because I don't work on the newer bikes but in the older bikes, the "orange" colored wires carried the battery voltage to the individual components much like "red" wires used to do in most DC circuits. I'd look for a bad connection in a plug somewhere. I hope this helps but like I said, I don't know a lot about the newer bikes. I mostly work on the older bikes that the dealers will not work on any longer.

Good Luck

Got a 2000 hayabusa, instrument panel back brake light and turn signals out, replaced 15amp fuse, rode the bike next morning same again?

Well...in general....the turn signals brake lights and horn and instrument lights are typically on the Signal fuse on most bikes.
So....any recently added accessories to the circuit?
If not...start at the signal and brake light sockets...inspect wiring around the socket and the sockets themselves looking for a possible short.
Then check wiring to the back under seat for chafing pinching etc
Inspect the wiring aroiund the steering head in case a pinch has occured causing a short on bar rotation.
If all looks okay...inspect the horns....not sure on your Busa, but many horns use 2 wires and ground through the horn button....so the horn needs to be insulated on its mount so as it may be wired hot and can short.

Rear tail light does not turn on.1998 suzuki 1500 intruder

It mught be the bulb that needs replacing or else check the wiring to the bulb for continuity in case there is a broken or snapped bit.If you have a voltmeter then you can test the voltage reading at the point of contact..Sometimes rust builds up and a simple cleaning would solve this.Hope this helps.

It starts and runs perfect but no headlight horn

first... check to make sure you don't have blown fuse.. using an electrical tester also, pierce the wire going into the units(if testing blinkers.. horn.. etc.. make sure you actually turn the blinker or horn on etc) this will tell you if you're getting power to them.. if no power trace wire back to connectors with the tester, checking connections etc... (you can get the electrical tester for about $5, clips onto battery and has small light that turns on when it's getting current to where you pierce the wires)
