Hello, My 2003 KTM 250SX is stuck in gear(not sure, feels like 2nd) and I can't get to shift. The level moves the full range of motion, but nothing happens as far as gear changing. Please advise. Thanks, Ed

Filed under "problem with websites" and obviously a vehicle. What kind? not a clue.
Cars that won't go into gear, if they are automatic transmission, check the transmission fluid level. For both manual and automatic transmission, there is a linkage mechanism from the gear shift to the transmission. Make sure (with somebody to help) that the motion from the gear shift is actually moving the shaft or whatever on the transmission! Could be loose or disconnected. Sounds like it is stuck in Park.
Since you did not finish the sentence, we will be forever in the suspenceful mystery of what happens when you push it backwards... stay tuned for the conclusion of Ben's story - maybe.
Is this a genuine part if not the part may be at fault also if not is there any dirt through the hole in the crank case the gear shaft goes through a simple solution is to use a multi tool and sand the shaft or crank case hole
Hi I am stuck in 2nd too.But I have a Probe 1989 GT and shifter will not move. I am told I need to tap/hit some rods in the tranny, after I remove about 10 bolts on the side of the tranny, and this would unstick it. Could work for yours too. I did see someone ask "what if the shifter moves? then its more of the shift gates, and is easy to fix. I not see answer to how, tho.
How is your clutch? Does it slip or drag when starting out? When you put it into 1st gear when starting out does the bike lunge forward? Hold it in first gear with the clutch in and rev the bike up. See if the bike wants to move forward with the clutch in.It sounds to me like your clutch isn't set right or getting worn out. Much easier to shift at low rpms on a clutch than high rpms. I hope this helps...
Either the shift linkage could be binding or you may need to adjust the clutch. The other problem might be a synchronizer in the transmission going bad.
Before guessing at transmission problems, check the fluid level (car warmed up, engine running in Park on level ground) and have the PCM scanned for trouble codes FIRST. 1-2 / 2-3 shift is delayed and harsh, may not shift into OD: Check TPS for smooth and linear electrical response over the entire range of motion. If not, replace. Start with that and here is a link for obtaining your DTC codes to your Sonoma. http://www.troublecodes.net/GM/ Thank you for using fixy and good luck
It sounds like the end of the shifting shaft has broke loose, it is a welded joint, If you can grab the shifter with your hand and feel that thing slip in there, up and down, that might be the problem, but splitting that case, ugh, total rebuild.Too bad you can't get to it through the clutch. Hope this helps.
What you need to check is the transmission release bearing because if there is a clearance on the release bearing you will encounter this problem and also check the transmission oil.
