Question about 2007 Honda VTX 1800 F

1 Answer

Oil leak I have an 07 VTX 1800f. Barely 1000 miles. Shortly after 500 I noticed an oil discharge coming from the rear left side cylinder head. It appears to happen from what I suspect to be head flooding while sitting on stand. There is no oil tracing as I ride, all other parts are clean except the cooling fins where it runs down. Is there a fix or is this a "live with issue" or something else?

It is most likely a leaky cylinder head cover gasket. There are also rubber seals that go around the bolts that hold the cover onto the head. Look closely and you will, very likely, see oil coming from one of these areas.

You need a gasket. Don't we be the bearer of bad news, but I think you have to drop the engine, one that bike to get to that gasket about 750 dollars you could try to stop leak. Just make sure it's good quality

White smoke coming out of tail pipe.

WHITE smoke? Or BLUE smoke? White smoke is usually caused by burning antifreeze (possible blown head gasket). Engine oil burning causes a bluish colored smoke.

Changing the oil two months ago means absolutely nothing to me. I have customers that travel 6000 miles or more in a month. Oil consumption is measured in volume over miles, not volume over months. It is normal for most 4 cylinder engines to use a little less than 1/2 quart in 1000 miles (even more than that for 6 cylinder and 8 cylinder engines).

I have a 2006 Honda VTX 1800F Spec 3. I'm on

When checking your oil on a Honda, be sure the cycle is upright and level. Insert the dipstick until it stops but do not screw it in. You can use any motorcycle oil that has the JASO MA rating. Other motorcycle brands with the JASO MA rating for transmission gears and wet clutches will work fine. If you would like to try an inexpensive oil, Shell Rotella T Sythetic 15w-40 sells for around $22 per gallon (a significant price savings over cycle brand oils) and can be purchased at Walmart and most auto stores. Happy Trails.

Sounds like you may have a head gasket leak. The oil journals for draining are on the far sides of the cylinders, so a leak there would cause oil to enter the cylinder. Is the engine a very high compression engine?
