How do i remove the rider seat on my 1999 yamaha R6

Hello,
The Yamaha R6 has two bolts that hold the riders seat on. You have to lift the foam and push forward at the rear end of the seat. The outer left and the outer right edge. If the bike is original it will be a 5mm allen head bolt and simply remove the bolts on both sides and then lift the rear of the seat up. The front of the seat has a lip that slides under the fuel tank bracket to secure it and simply slide it rearward and out.

Thanks and I hope that this helps.

How to open seat

Remove the rear seat squab using the ignition key in the lock below the rear shock reservoir, look at the front wall of the tool compartment and you will find a catch which you pull. It took me a bit of head scratching to find it when I wanted the seat removed. Good luck.

Remove the seat

The two rear corners of the riders seat can be pulled back, you will find two allen head screws, simply remove them and the seat can be removed exposing the battery.
