There is a proper way to start the engine. Four controls are on your bike to assist in starting. Below are generic instructions.

  • The choke, used when the engine is cold. Pull the red knob for choke.
  • The " Hot Start " Lever, used when the engine is hot. Pull the lever to lean the fuel mix when the engine has been running.
  • The de-compression lever, always used.
  • The throttle, used to prime the cylinder.
Don't kick, instead, push the kick lever downward. You will feel the back pressure as the piston is going upward on the compression stroke to the point the pressure is great enough that the kick lever "locks up". You are very close to TDC. NOW, pull in the de-compression lever. Push the kick lever a little bit more to get the piston past TDC. Now release the de-compression lever. Give the throttle a 1/4 turn then let it snap closed. A diaphragm in the carb gives a shot of gas when this is done. DO NOT do this multiple times because you will flood the engine. Leave the throttle closed when kicking. A flooded engine will often backfire. Now give a strong kick through the full sweep of the kick start lever. Quickly get your foot off the kick lever at the end of the kick to avoid any chance of "kickback" from the kick lever. This happens in the case of a misfire, aka > backfire. It can be very painful, and can even break a leg. I am serious about that. Repeat the process (but without the throttle priming), for six kicks. After six kicks go ahead and twist the throttle again for a second priming. A good battery, a clean spark plug, a clean carb and clean air filter will also aid in starting.

My kawasaki kx250f 2007 model wont start

Hey Tracey,
The KX250F is a sweet bike. Can you give me a little more information on the symptoms? When you kick it over, does the engine turn freely? Have you ridden it lately or has it been sitting? Does the bike have any visible corrosion, or has it been in a garage with little to no moisture or humidity during storage. Do you have the engine decompression start assist on the bike and is that working properly? Just help me with some answers to these questions and anything else you believe is relevant so I can point you in the right direction more efficiently. :)

Just got my self a 2005 kx250f was runing fine one day and now i cant start it changed air filter spark plug and cleand the carb it back fies alot

The valves probably need adjusting. This should be done periodically with four stroke dirt bikes. When my bike's valves need adjusting, it kills me trying to kick it, and it backfires a lot.

Another symptom I have noticed for valves that need adjustment is when I pull in the clutch sometimes, the bike will stall.

Hope this helps.

What is the recommended coolant for a 2005 kawasaki kx250F? I just purchased the bike and unsure if I have to go to Kawi dealer or if there is a common fluid that will work for the radiator?

really any but dex cool. The best i have found to date is liquid performance. Any good shop should know what it is and well it works i have used it in race bikes for over 7 yrs now and have better cooling with it then anything i have used. From dirt to street. they also have some really really I mean really good cleaners.

ther is a chance that being over filled will blow out of the crank breather so drain off to the correct level if then the bike still does this then you have to high crank presure meaning the bore and piston/rings are badly worn

Kawasaki KX250F 2006 model coolent leak

There are two seals on the impeller pump. Replace the seals an the leak is stopped. Put in a new cover gasket as well.

Go to the site below where you can see a parts diagram for your specific bike. You will select the actual brand, year, model, etc., once you go to the site. Part numbers and prices are also shown. You can order parts from this site. In the event no price is shown on a particular part, the part is not in stock. Click on the "ENGINE COVERS" tab.

A “very helpful” rating for this answer? Thanks!

I just got my 06 kx250f bike a complete top end re build and i have not taken it for a ride yet,but when i give it a quick warm up it seems really smokey and smells like something is burning in the exhaust...

This is normal for a fresh top end. Fingers with a bit of oil on them assembled the top end and a bit of the oil is on the engine and is burning off. It will stop pretty soon. Go for a ride!

Please top rate this solution. Thanks!

Kawasaki kx250f 2007 hard to kickstart

If the bike is in neutral and is hard to kick and no piston seize exists, the only other sources for resistance other than compression would be the main bearings and rod bearings, OHC caps, oil pump and water pump. I mention the two pumps because there is a slight possibility that a partial hydraulic lock could be occurring due to a plugged line.

Have you checked the gearbox oil lately?

I am looking to purchase a 2007 kawasaki kx250f

Just call your local Kawasaki dealer, or any Kawasaki dealer, and give them the VIN number and they can look it up and tell you EXACTLY what the bike is. If you call a local dealer they may know the current owner and the bike's history.

Simple thing but easy to overlook. Could I get a 4 diamond rating for this solution? I am 3 short of 100 correct answers. Thanks!

Suspension - winter storage

If your motorcycle has a center stand, use it for long term storage. If you're not riding for several weeks and don't have a center stand, you may want to consider carefully propping up the bike using blocks. Don't do more harm than good by dropping your bike while attempting to prop it up! If done correctly, lifting your motorcycle will alleviate stress on the suspension and tires. Inflate your tires to the maximum recommended pressure will maintain their shape, since cooling temperatures will make the pressurized air contract. If the ground might potentially freeze, try to keep the tires off the ground using wood blocks.
